Elkton eyes 35000 planning grant for district revitalization
Elizabeth McCarty of the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission outlined a potential 35000 planning grant for Elkton to aid business district revitalization. No matching funds are required, but in kind contributions and volunteer time would be needed. The grant is through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and would need local champions to drive the project.

Upgrade nearly finished in Grottoes wastewater plant
A $2.3 million upgrade to Grottoes wastewater treatment plant started last January and is nearing completion. Mandated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the work will cut phosphorus discharge into the South Fork of the Shenandoah River and the Chesapeake Bay watershed to improve water quality. The 1984 plant also receives a separate $320,000 CHA design/construction solutions contract for additional work.

Elkt on native Conley retires as Dayton police chief
Elkton native Donald Dinky Conley retired as Dayton police chief after 17 years in the force and 28 years in law enforcement. He began in 1998 moving from Greene and Madison counties sheriff offices to Dayton, later earning a going away party with an etched glass trophy. He credited a love for the town and service in the Army and police work for his long career.

Massanutten Faces DEQ Penalty Over Sewage Spill
Massanutten Public Service Corp faces a 5687 fine and consent order from the Virginia DEQ after about 10 000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled from an 8 inch main and manhole into Bonnie Brook on May 17 2014. The discharge crossed three backyards before entering the Bonnie Brook tributary and was only verified by video on May 19.

Page County High School's Pan-Tech team traveled to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond on January 3 to collect components for the FIRST Robotics Competition. Over six weeks they will design and build remote controlled robots to grapple totes, recycling bins, and pool noodles while gaining real world job skills and eligibility for college scholarships.
