Christmas Tree Time at Evergreen Farm Brings Family Ties
Keezletown's Evergreen Tree Farm spans 22 acres at 2411 Flook Lane and operates for one month each year. Keezletown resident Johnna Chandler, 51, has worked there eight or nine years making wreaths and grave blankets. Norman Campbell, 74, also helps, joined by her son Stalyn Chandler, 21. Jim Culpepper, 61, manages year round, with his wife Karen, 61, and son Daniel, 35, joining during peak season. Owner Dave Thomas also runs Valley Star Farm at 1104.

New church approved for just north of Grottoes
Rockingham County Supervisors approved a special-use permit on December 10 for New Beginning Holiness Ministries, an independent Pentecostal church, at 14856 South East Side Highway about a half mile north of Grottoes. The decision hinges on a site plan approval by Zoning Administrator Diana Stultz. The congregation of about 20 meets 10:30 a.m. Sundays and 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the old Port Republic location.

Valley farmers praised for their soil and water conservation

Local band brings gospel strings to Journeys Crossing
Ronnie Haney Jay Viands Joe McAlister and Steve Meadows form a four member band playing country and bluegrass gospel at Journeys Crossing retirement home on Sundays from 10 to 11 a.m. They perform for residents and share brief sermons twice a month. Attendance reached about twenty on Sunday.
