Fair crowns new pageant winners in Rockingham County
Five year old Lilly Lawson, Elkton, won the Virginia Little Darlings title on July 27 and aims for Tiny Miss Rockingham County Fair. Her bake sale funded her entry into the 2014 pageant while sisters Madelyn and Bella competed in Baby Doll divisions. Local moms defend pageants as confidence builders and community-minded events.

Memories of Shenandoah days from SNP to Earlysville
Taylor recalls growing up in what became Shenandoah National Park in the 1920s and 30s. The 95 year old Earlysville resident, born in Pocosin Hollow, describes moonshine as medicine, poverty, and log-shack living, then military service in World War II and later farming. He notes family milestones and four children, now spread across Virginia.
