Five Sidney retail liquor license applications won approval from the city council on Friday night. The council advised the liquor commission to proceed as residents expect, despite hints to limit licensees. The Snyder Vath bid was received after the council acted, but approval was extended in case it arrives late.

Plans for certification of small grain in Nebraska were announced by P. H. Stewart extension agronomist at the college of agriculture. Certification is important this year because a million bushels of mixed seed were planted this spring. Stewart says farmers will replace mixed seed with pure varieties. Higher City Levy Planned for Sidney This Year

Work Progresses On Sterling Flood Area Repair Equipment
Bert Steele a Sidney contractor used in repairing flood damage to the north Sterling irrigation intake ditch was moved last week from the Union district to ten miles north and west of Sterling where larger breaks occurred from Springdale creek floods. The outfit from Union includes 80 horses a large caterpillar tractor fresnos and similar gear. A north Sterling caterpillar in Springdale district has been operated by Ross Dillon. A five yard scraper works with his tractor.

Million Dollar Pipe Contract Let on 163 Mile Pipeline
Williams brothers of Tulsa Oklahoma won the bid for a 163 mile natural gas pipeline from Clayton Wyoming to Bridgeport. The project, costing more than a million dollars, is expected to start around August 1 and finish within the year. North Central Gas officials say they will not handle construction. Williams brothers will supervise all labor and employment. The line will transport gas from Sandraw and Musk Rat fields west of Casper to eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska, replacing a lease held by North Central from Standard Oil and Gas.

A funnel shaped cloud churned across the south table Sunday afternoon ripping an eighty foot barn from the Laaker farm southeast of Sidney with the roof torn away and machinery damaged. The storm moved two miles in about a half hour forcing the family to flee. Unconfirmed reports said another Brauer farm barn was demolished.

Senator Green Returns From National Meet in Lincoln Visit

Belongia Dies Calmly in Colorado Gas Chamber
Leonard Belongia, the Colorado killer captured in Sidney by Sheriff Schulz and Chief Rogers, walked calmly to his death in the state prison gas chamber Friday night.
