Thieves Market in Mexico City Opposite National Palace
A Chicago Chronicle report describes a large thieves market in Mexico City near the Zocalo and opposite the national palace. Stalls sell crockery, tinware, and cooking utensils to locals and visitors, with thieves selling goods to hucksters or on commission. Even a major restaurant owner buys from the market, which remains an old, tolerated institution facing little interference.
