A new Challis creek path would cut about 35 miles, running along Challis creek and Middle Fork. On Monday January 13 a blasting accident at the White Knob Copper Co. project near Mackay killed two workmen instantly. A drill misfire left another man badly injured with his left leg blown off. Two additional workers escaped with minor injuries as the five men labored to prepare for blasting. Names of the dead and wounded are not yet known.
