John Hodovan Jr of 5% Main St was elected commander of the Rittman American Legion Post No 423 at the annual officers election Tuesday night. Other officers chosen include Walter Keating first vice commander Claude Smith second vice commander Frank Daniel adjutant John Breece sergeant at arms Chas Rohrer chaplain. Installation set for October 7, 1948.
Dorothy DeVore daughter of L G DeVore of 16 S Fourth St left Sunday for Dennison U to begin studies.
A chimney at the school was struck by lightning on Sunday afternoon as custodian William F. Rike inspected the scene. Bricks scattered, the bolt dissipated on the wet roof with no roof damage or other harm. Firemen noted no damage below roof level. School officials will repair the chimney. insurance coverage is through the school board policy.
Medina Jr. High defeated Medina Wed nesday night 20 to 7 behind two Jim Baker touchdowns and a Benek score. Benek added two extra points as the Juniors led from start to finish under Coach Donald Beery with substitutions used for rest of the game. They next meet Wadsworth Jr. High on September 30 with a schedule including Orrville Norton and Medina later in October and November.
An O E S home benefit party sponsored by the 1947 matrons and District 4 officers will be at the Lodi Masonic Temple at 8 p m September 30. Tickets may be procured from Emma Houglan or Billa Coffman. Mr and Mrs Edward Ball visited Mr and Mrs Ray Yochheim and attended a family dinner for Paul Ball's 14th birthday.
Rittman council unanimously votes to revert to Eastern Standard Time at 2 a m this Sunday aligning with Akron and nearby cities. City authorizes action against Erie Railroad to fix the Erie ditch and improve drainage while approving emergency water main projects on North and Orchard avenues to speed construction.
The Federal Housing Administration will survey housing needs in Rittman after Akron builders protested a rejected plan to build 66 homes. Investigators will assess local construction costs wage scales and housing demand with input from area manufacturers and the Cleveland FHA office. Chamber directors offered to assist in the survey and revisit reconsideration of the application.
The Rittman Indians prepare for a revenge bid at Orrville after a 33-0 setback last fall. Coach Ashton Hall has drilled the team, bleachers for 300 to 400 people rise at the stadium, and an observation tower will film the game as locals contribute to progress and support.
Two new long distance lines to Wooster were installed last Friday to shorten out of town calls for Rittman users. Officials expect three lines in operation soon though the Orrville toll line equipment has not yet arrived.
