Rittman Village Council Meets In Regular Session

The Rittman Village Council held a regular meeting Monday night with Mayor Shackleford presiding. Fire Chief Dearolft reported many buildings are fire hazards, praised the two schools Vapera House and Sigler Hotel, and plans were discussed for new city maps and house numbering. The clerk was to procure three traffic reflectors, and the pay ordinance of 693.76 dollars was approved before adjourning for two weeks.

Wayne county fair seen as rising in prominence

Secretary G J Ebright of the Wayne county fair association predicts the Wooster Ohio event will be the biggest yet with growing school exhibit interest and keen livestock competition. He notes tents may be needed for livestock housing and cites a new cement floor in agricultural hall. October 3 5 6 dates.

Cleveland Presbytery Meets in Seville

The fall meeting of Cleveland Presbytery convened at Seville Presbyterian Church on Sept 19 and 20. Dr A P Higley moderated a Monday program featuring Chase Wishart who spoke on Christian Education amid a growing College of Wooster endowment drive. Seventeen Rittman Church members attended. Tuesday covered routine business with a bountiful Seville ladies’ luncheon.

George Supple Loses Finger In Bread Cutting Accident

Mr and Mrs Carl Supple were away when their six year old son George cut the end of a finger off while cutting bread. He told the doctor the severed part was eaten by chickens. The finger was severed between the first and second joints. The family lives east of town on Salt street.

Farewell Reception for Several Families in Rittman

The Presbyterian church hosted a farewell reception Wednesday honoring Mr. and Mrs. Gerberich and Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Ekin. Guests enjoyed games and an old fashioned visit. The Gerberichs plan to move to Clinton soon. The Ekin family will relocate to Clinton. Ladies Aid provided a light lunch and gifts of appreciation were presented.

All the Fans Will Be There at Doyles Town Baseball

An all day baseball tournament is set for Saturday at Doyles town with clubs from Hittman Marshallville Johnson Corners and Doylestown. The local team, fresh from a Labor Day win over the Congress All-Overs, hopes to bring home the bacon. Cats will be given to attendees courtesy of Doylestown ladies in the town hall, drawing a big crowd. The town urges strong attendance to avoid disappointment and to root for the local team.

Akron Woman Arrested In Town Overnight

A woman said to be from Akron appeared in our village, bought chloroform at Rexall Drugstore, and was taken into custody by Marshal Schorger. In a Saturday mayoral hearing she gave the name Grace Wood of Akron and was returned to Oppor tunity City.

Former Rittman resident Warren Hosier dies in Cleveland

Warren Hosier aged about 84 and formerly of Rittman and Wooster was found dead in a Cleveland hotel. He had worked for American Telephone and Telegraph Co and was a Wooster High School graduate of 1906. Survived by his mother Mrs Eric Hosier and four sisters in Kenton Akron Canton and Cleveland. His body was taken to Wooster grandmother Mrs Sarah J Bente’s home for burial.

Hospital Drive Boosts Rittman Fund May Reach Goal

Last Saturday ten teams conducted a house to house drive for hospital funds in Rittman. About 4509 dollars apportionment was raised or pledged so far, with exact totals not yet available. Some residents were absent and will be canvassed again, and organizers plan to extend efforts toward Wadsworth and Milton township to benefit the hospital.
