Local residents report weekend calls and visits as family members depart for training, school, or duty. Army, Air Force, and Navy connections appear with Pvt Theodore Scott, Jeanne Grant, Arthur Bauman, and Major Randall Alexander among others. Extended trips include vacations to Canada, Ohio, and distant posts, while several family members provide care during hospital stays and childbirth.
Miss Mary Balloon daughter of Mr and Mrs Ambrose Balloon of Front street is among 27 honorees pictured in the Akron Beacon Journal Sikh Knight Scholarship section for advanced study in her field. A pianist with a bachelor of music from the College of Wooster she studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and previously taught a large class of pupils in Rittman and Wooster after graduation.
Raid of updates shows Lt William J Newberry 24 returned from overseas duties now at Army Air Forces Redistribution Station No 2 Miami Beach awaiting next assignment. Navy and Marine personnel list leave post training, new addresses, and unit transfers including Edwin Graber 25 and Robert Halliwell 25 at Great Lakes, plus Camp Pendleton moves, Fort Francis E Warren, and USS Edgar G Chase FPO New York addresses.
Rittman Indians and Millersburg Spartans battle to a 6-6 tie in the opener. Rittman’s early TD came on a T formation drive but extra point failed. Millersburg matched with a second quarter score. Indians’ Wallace and Ashbrook starred on defense as 19 experienced players prepared for Orrville next Friday.

Mrs Cecelia Ziegler died at her home on North First Street after a month long illness. She was 77. Her husband and son had predeceased her. Surviving siblings are Charles of Sterling and Ed of Pana, Illinois. Mass was sung at St Ann's Catholic Church by Rev J T Farrell at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial followed at Blue Mount, Illinois.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Haller.

Junior Moine son of Mr and Mrs Delbert Mone of Sterling, age 12, showed two baby beeves in the 4-H club at the Wooster county fair. He earned three ribbons including a Purple Reserve Champion and two blue Grade A awards. The two prize animals were among 70 sold, weighing 1015 and 1055 pounds, bringing 30 cents and 26 3/4 cents per pound respectively.
Rittman schools gain 5640 from state distribution of funds. The county system will get 42784 and Orrville 7232. The board plans to allocate the bonus to school employees at the next meeting on Wednesday night October 4.

Next of kin include son C F Yoder of Rittman five daughters Emma Rock Francis Gemmell Viola Sigler Lodema Burger Lydia Sawade and several grandchildren. The husband Henry M Welker has died.

Bodager, an insurance and real estate broker, signs a three year lease for the Rittman Realty building at Ohio Ave and N Main St. The lease begins Oct 1, with Raymond Bell moving meat market gear out of the site. Bodager will not occupy the main floor until year end. Dr. W. Elliott the dentist on the second floor and a rear apartment remain. The Citizens Savings & Loan vacates its corner space soon after Oct 10 stockholders vote to sell assets to Peoples Federal Savings & Loan Go. of Wooster, where Bodager has served as secretary for 17 years and will continue to represent the company locally.
Willow Brook program for Wednesday September 27 announces a 2 pm dedication at the community building. Guests include Rev D B Davidson leading prayers, Willow Brook Junior Commandos, group singing, solos by Mrs Royal Humbert, Marguerite Hug on housing topics, Mayor John W Balls and housing reps, unveiling of a plaque, and a Star Spangled Banner.
The Crown Mennonite Church congregation opens a new school in the former Milay filling station on Route 6 where Route 94 turns to Orrville. About 25 pupils attend with Alias Maust of Springs, Pa, as teacher.
Mr and Mrs M R Ritter and son Billy of N Second St attended the funeral Saturday afternoon at Sandusky for Mrs Frank Copley, died Wednesday morning at Lakeside hospital Cleveland. She leaves two sons in the Air Force and one daughter at home. Major Randall Alexander, Rittman’s highest ranking officer, flew from Cleveland to Hartford Conn on his return from Rittman and a visit with his parents. His plane was grounded and he took the train to Boston.
