Rittman to observe standard time Sept 24 in council vote
Rittman will switch to standard time on Sunday September 24 after a council meeting at City Hall. Clocks will be set back one hour at 2 a m that date. The council discussed sewage disposal plant improvements and asked property owners on West First Street West Second Street North Road Wadsworth Road and Grandview Avenue to sign petitions for street name changes. Grandview Avenue is slated as Fairlawn Avenue per Willow Brook project. Councilman L E Swope resigns effective Oct 1 to move to Cincinnati for Ohio Boxboard Co. The council will elect a replacement next meeting. The street department reported the ice skating rink mowed drains cleared for winter. A sidewalk 800 feet long will be built on Wadsworth Road and Fairlawn Ave. Home Street grade established Willow Brook paved it for village maintenance. Dump conditions discussed and scraper authorized to push refuse into the gully.

Light Draft Call For Eastern County In September
The Army's draft in Eastern Wayne County for September will be light. Selective Service Board No. 2 in Orrville was asked to send six men for induction on September 29 and 24 for pre-induction on September 30. Four volunteers are on hand to meet the six inductees. Of 19 men who left Friday for induction as the July contingent, 13 were accepted for the Army, five for the Navy, and one rejected. Navy picks and Army names listed. Forty-eight of 85 men sent to Cleveland for the July pre-induction group were passed for general service, six for limited service, 48 rejected, five awaiting word. Jack Stands, now in California, reported as part of the pre-induction group and immediately reported for induction. Four conscientious objectors will depart Monday for CO camps. Monday's meeting reclassified several men but placed four into 1-A.

Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2117 held a family picnic at Leider tafle Park on Sunday Sept 3 with numerous winners. Beverly Truex won the children's foot race while Robert Smith took the boys race. Sally Scot and Earline Walkerall won the three legged race, Charlie Duckworth from Rittman led the novelty race, and Eddie Weber duo won the egg contest.
