Rittman Pioneer Alpheus Goffinet to be buried Wednesday
Alpheus J. Goffinet 87, longtime Rittman resident and first Auto owner, will lie in state prior to a 9:30 requiem Mass at St. Ann Church. He died Sunday at Horn Nursing Home Wooster after a long illness. Survived by sons Melvin Harold. daughters Cora Gordon Mildred Rohrer. brothers Armand Arthur Albert. sister Mrs Augusta Gordon. eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Burial in Rittman Cemetery. He helped print the first Rittman Press in 1912 and built the town’s first motion picture theatre in 1909. He was a former Lions Club member and a member of St. Ann Church. Born in Belford France.

Band Events Planned by Rittman Boosters
Rittman Band Boosters met at Rittman High School and planned two band shows. The band will perform at Carrollton on Saturday October 12 and travel to Orrville on Saturday October 19. Officers elected for the year include president Mrs Henry Thompkins and others. The meeting date was changed to the first Monday each month at 7:30 in the high school.

Dam Project Held Up For Funds
No bids were awarded for the Chippewa-Watershed dam as federal funds were temporarily delayed. Watershed secretary L K Burnett said a 6 billion dollar federal cutback caused the halt, with plans to start this fall if money arrives. Buck Creek dam would be the first phase near Chippewa Lake. Bids opened last week showed low bid from Earl Moving Service Iberia at 72271, others ranged to 124964.

United Fund campaign runs Oct 7 to 26 in Rittman with two division chairmen to raise 2800 for the Kidney Foundation of Ohio. Mrs Rohex Stoll and Dr Thomas Smoot lead efforts to fund research public education and drug aid including kidney transplant support and artificial kidney research. Applicants may contact the Kidney Foundation of Wayne County through United Fund for aid.

Campout Planned for Pac-Mar Chapter Families
