Roy Moffett manager of the Rittman Orrville Ohio Central Telephone branch told Rittman City Council that future home problems will be handled directly and that staff are undergoing company training. A new billing period starts next month with a town-wide directory due Oct 4 and full dialing directions included. The company notes twelve new links for direct dialing and ongoing regrading challenges from party lines to private lines. Moffett warned services would cost more but toll rates have been reduced since 1960. Councilman Jay Griffith pressed for quicker action and Moffett said implementation could take two years if direct dialing is approved next month.
Elverna I. Leatherman 71 of 120 Grandview Wadsworth died Sunday after a long illness. Her funeral is today at 2 p.m. in Wadsworth with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Survivors include husband Roy and son Robert R. plus three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also two brothers and a sister.
Mary E. Beth Tompkins 45 of 53 Medina Street died Wednesday at Orrville Osteopathic Hospital after an earlier admission. Born in Virginia to Jeannette and Anna Tompkins she moved to Rittman in 1929. A former employee of RC Cans and Rittman Taxi Service she attended St Ann Catholic Church. Survived by mother Anna Tompkins and brother William Henry Tompkins both of Rittman. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.
Two Bittmanites will head United Fund drives in Rittman to raise 1600 toward 17500 with pledges from schools and staff. Campaign events run Oct 7 to Oct 26, with meetings Sept 30 and Oct 7. Girl Scout Sue Jenkins details scouting value from Camp Ledgew ood and Juliette Low’s legacy.
Rittman square dance club members hold a workshop at city hall on Thursday September 26 at 7 30 p m. Attendees may learn square dancing at the first meeting Tuesday at 8 p m at city hall with Dick Mackey of Worcester as caller. The program includes 18 lessons for eighth and ninth graders and for seniors tenth through twelfth grades.
Chippewa Board of Education seeks a new high school with state funds. Officials met with state representatives to apply for special grants aimed at overpopulated underfinanced districts. Chippewa is among 30 Ohio districts and ranked eighth on the priority list. Bond funds would buy land, possibly 25 acres on Clinton Street owned by Dr Byron E Neiswander.
Cullen Meese 88 of 43 Greenbriar died Tuesday at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. Thursday services were in Dover. He leaves daughters Dorothy Myers of Rittman and Elnora Marsh of New Philadelphia, son Cullen Meese Jr of Rittman, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and sister Mrs Lloyd Spivey of Baltimore Maryland.
Randall L Lloyd presumed prisoner of war in Vietnam. Son of Mr and Mrs Russell Lloyd of Sterling RD Lloyd has been missing since May 12 according to his parents. He was to take a rest and relaxation tour to Thailand but traded R and R plans with a friend who met his wife in Hawaii. Lloyd attended Norwayne High School and Orrville High and was serving with an infantry unit in the Dak To area assigned to Company E Second Platoon.
