Boxboard Team Defeats Wadsworth

The Ohio Boxboard nine defeated the Wadsworth ACs 11 to 3 on Saturday at the Box board athletic field. A Schaad pitched effectively, scattering eight Wadsworth hits, and Williams lasted 21 hits for Wadsworth. The win closed the Papermakers season after 15 games, with only two losses.

Coon Dog Races Added to Wayne County Fair

Wayne County Fair runs October 1 to 4 with new coon dog races on the track between speed events. Two races Thursday offer purses of 5 3 and 2 dollars each with winners barred from later heats. Friday features a third race and a final among Thursday winners with purses 10 8 and 5 dollars. A coon is placed in a car and driven while dogs follow. first to finish wins. Ross Kart of Fredericksburg leads these races.

Pony Races Added To Wayne County Fair Schedule

Pony races for children debut at Wayne County fair with two height classes. On October 1 ponies under 46 inches will race for purses of 20, 15, 10 dollars with no entry fee. entries close September 30. On Saturday ponies 46 to 62 inches compete for the same prizes between regular race heats.

Paving Work Nears Finish From Rittman to Portagerd

Weather permitting three weeks may finish the new full width road connecting Rittman to Portage td along State Route 94. Holmes Construction and Columbus Asphalt share tasks. Holmes builds four bridges near Rittman and paving connecting patches, while Columbus handles the rest. The completed highway will replace the old narrow pavement with a modern two lane road and two banked curves.

Indoor Ball Teams In Woodland Party

The Ohio Boxboards indoor baseball teams hosted an outdoor party on Wright's farm near Shinersburg after a season deciding loss. The Business Men's team funded the weiner and marshmallow roast with about 20 attendees enjoying food and games in a woodland setting.

Mrs. Sam Welch entertained at her home Sunday honoring her husband's birthday anniversary. A chicken dinner was served at noon. Ashland College welcomed five students for the 1930 1931 term on Tuesday. The freshman group includes Jerry Boyce Dorothea Franka Maxine Kime and Liverett Nolewonger with Wayne Darby joining after portions at Ohio State.

Wayne County Fair Dates Announced For 1930

The Wayne County Fair runs September 30 through October 4 with exhibits in place by Tuesday night. Judging begins Wednesday morning and the fair continues day and night, ending with the coronation of the Fair Queen Saturday night. The management promises an outstanding program of education and entertainment, the best Wayne County has ever had.

Abandoned Ford Coupe Recovered After Wreck Near Vernon

Marshal Edo Miller found a 1930 Ford coupe abandoned on the road north of Ridiga near Vernon. The car, stolen Wednesday, had struck a ditch and rolled onto its top. owner Lester Menuetu and Mt Vernon police located the vehicle, with about 2400 miles on the speedometer and the thief not yet identified.

Seville Boys Hurt In Triple Smashup

Seville residents Willis Fredrick and Eugene Clapp were injured Saturday evening in a three-vehicle crash near the Noyes home. A Lakewood Chevrolet struck a Buick from New Philadelphia, injuring both boys who were taken to Wadsworth and Readhurst hospitals with a fractured skull and cracked ribs respectively.

Creston Church To Lay Corner Stone

The Church of God of Creston will lay the corner stone for a new church on Sunday September 21, 1930 at 2:50 PM. Rev Ernest F E Shaw will speak, with special singing by the Dixie Trio and the Canton Comcord Street Church of God quartet. Since 1924 the Creston church has grown, with Sunday School reaching 285 and many altar prayers during two years.

Sidewalks Under Way by Rittman Contractor

RM Shook, a local contractor, completed a stretch of sidewalk on the east side of North Third Street. Additional segments are planned along the west side of Gaynards and other areas before cold weather, under village council authorization.

Honor Couple Marks 50th Anniversary at Chippewa Lake

At the Nickerson home near Chippewa Lake on Sept 16 1930 a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Miss Robdpyrea Jane Martin and Mr Stephen Nickerson took place with Rev Robert Watnall officiating. Relatives and friends attended a reception and a wedding cake was shared. The couple first married in 1880 and were longtime Chippewa Lake residents.
