A jumble of quips and verse about fat jokes, stage stars, and social mores. The page mocks beauty standards and theater types, then pivots to short items: judges, a New York trial, owls stealing golf balls, telephones in New England, women shooters, a saxophone joke, and a garbled obit line.
A W C T U meeting is set for Wednesday September 17 at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs Aron Wolfe. Election of officers will be held following the order of the president.
A. C. Goflinet, manager of the Ideal Bowling Alleys, urges all interested bowlers to attend the official opening Tuesday September 16 to organize four five man teams for a new city league independent of Boxboard and Salt Co. last year’s trio of teams may expand. women bowlers in Rittman are invited to form a ladies team to compete with Akron, Kent and other cities.
Mr and Mrs William English hosted Mr and Mrs B G Mains son Paul and niece Marjorie Miller at a 6 pm dinner. The Mains recently relocated from Marion to Rittman and will move to Columbus where Mr Mains took a new job after leaving Ohio Boxboard Co. Paul Mains, a noted musician, has played organ recitals at the Presbyterian church.
Chas Newman recently moved from Rittman to Springfield Road near Krumroy and had a Sunday cataract operation on one eye. Doctors hope to save the growth and restore sight though the outcome is not yet known. He was confined to a dark room for days with eyes bandaged and could face a second operation if successful.
Members and friends of the Milton Presbyterian class invite attendance at a Friday evening social at the church. Dr Gregg is listed as teacher and the gathering aims to share corn and weiner peast with attendees.
Two new additions join J H Fisher’s large display on South Main Street. One is the Dead of Zomte tik from a big game hunt in British Columbia Canada last October, with large antlers and a soft coat. The other is a white male mountain goat head with a striking, lifelike form. Both mounts show G L Pop of Vancouver’s skilled taxidermy, delayed by Pop’s trip to Germany from completing Fisher’s display.
Fifty two years since the Milton Presbyterian Church formed under Rev John Calvin Elliott now Sevillé church was celebrated. Rev Carl H Hilcott led morning services with former members and descendants attending. Evening gathering recalled early history while Rev Hendrickson preached. Elliott and family participated in the observance.
In a Wednesday meeting the Rittman Savings Bank directors elected Ralph J Krabill secretary and cashier to fill the vacancy caused by Beecher Lee's death. Krabill had served nine years as assistant cashier and arrived in Rittman in 1928 from Tron Oreville. The bank's board includes EB St. Lance as president and RV Fredrick as vp with other directors.
The S S Class Social at the Presbyterian church resumed after months away with a program in the church parlors. Members faced a low turnout due to vacations but those present enjoyed piano solos readings and games. Lunch was served by the refreshment committee.
The school bus carried 16 children to the Melvin Beachy home three miles NW for Bobby Beachys sixth birthday. Games, ice cream, and cake with candles followed, and gifts were opened. Guests included Billy Heffelman Bobby Schmeltzer Bobby Wodager Vernon Clark and others. Mrs Beachy was assisted by Mrs Burkett.
The East Ohio Annual Conference of the United Brethren In Christ opened on Wednesday September 10 in Canton Ohio at St Pauls church. The closing service will be Sunday September 14 when year appointments are made. Rev and Mrs Ortt of Rittman First A BR are in attendance. H F Longenecker is a delegate from the local church.

The Rittman Rotary Club heard Wm. Heebsh president of the Orrville club discuss Fellowship at their Thursday meeting. Visitor Frank Snyder now of Wooster attended the session.
Teresa Pavlie daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Pavlie married Maurite E Landers son of Maurice Landers of Wooster Ohio at St Ann s Church Rittman. Nuptial High Mass featured organ recital and traditional vows. The couple to reside at 540 Bealle Ave Wooster Ohio after Sept 16.
A new pavement stretch along the CCC highway connects Wooster and Loudonville and was dedicated Wednesday with Governor Myers Y Cooper and officials in attendance. Mayors and prominent local leaders joined the ceremony as the road provides a ten mile shorter route to Columbus from the Cleveland district.
Joseph Burger of Akron and his family shared Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Albert Burger of New Milford. Two members were absent Mrs Fashbaugh of Michigan and Fred of Rittman. About 326 people attended and everyone reported a wonderful time.
Paving on Route No. 94 south of Portage CD advances rapidly under contractor effort. Columbia Asphalt began August 37, laying two miles of concrete with brick remaining to match old pavement. Holmes Construction completes two bridges and final road patches. One way traffic maintained with detours in place.
An unidentified man was found unconscious along the DR and O tracks after falling from a passing freight train. He was taken to a doctor who placed ten clamps on a head wound. The youth appears about 12 years old and is resting at a local hospital while recuperating.
A party led by C. B. Wilson includes E. R. Lance J H. Fisher and Mrs. Kate Kraut leaving Rittman this Thursday for a fishing trip in Ontario Canada. Their base will be Hastings with access to Rica Lake where muskellunge pickerel and bass are plentiful. They do not expect to return for two weeks or possibly more.
The Rittman Boy Scouts act as traffic officers at Main and Ohtoav to prevent schoolchildren accidents. Three daily shifts run before lunch, after lunch, and after school with two scouts per shift. This month’s Captain of the Guard is Milton C. Escovitz, Scoutmaster Hubert Squibbs.
Early Thursday, Mike Gombarish of the foreign population was arrested by Marshal Ed Mill on disorderly conduct charges. He is jailed awaiting summons for a hearing in Mayor Hanes' court.
