At the regular council session Monday night all members were present and the electric light franchise final touches were completed and published in this issue of The Press. Grading of Main street and the engineer's report were reviewed with no action. a building restrictions ordinance was deferred. Bills totaling 990.15 were ordered paid, including a large street grading item, and the council adjourned at 11 p.m.
It includes Mr E E Shulrz of Springfield Ohio sending $1 for renewal and praising the paper. He hopes subscribers will renew and many new subscriptions come in through the contest plan.
In a Sunday game Sterling edged Wadsworth 6 to 5 as pitchers Hoover and Leonard held key roles. Raff led Sterling with two doubles while Leonard plated two runs for Wadsworth who had 12 hits off Leonard and 10 off Hoover. The report notes Hoover's clever pitching and mentions J H Fisher winning a separate Willough Beach game for single men.
Mrs Christ King accompanied by Dr. King formerly deputy treasurer, now living on the old home farm near Orrville, visited Wooster for the first time in over thirty years. They rode in the Cane automobile and Mrs King saw her first street car, expressing keen interest during the city excursion.
The Sterling Carnival followed the lead of Rittman and Creston band events this summer drawing an estimated 2000 to 3000 attendees. Night chill kept ice cream sales low while gross receipts reached about $170. The concerts fostered harmony among towns, with Sterling, Creston, and Rittman bands improving regional engagement. The local press celebrates the cooperative outcome and community pride.
The 28th session of the East Ohio Conference of the United Brethren church begins in Ashland today. A key issue is the proposal to unite with the Protestant Methodist denomination.
