Rittman PTA Opens 1950 51 Season With 73 Members

The Rittman Parent Teachers Association held its first meeting of the 1950-51 season in the high school auditorium. President Karl Melenbacker presided as 73 members attended. One hundred eight paid members were announced. Mrs. Whit Smithwick was elected 3rd vice president to fill a vacancy. The executive committee reported summer actions aiding the Mothers Club for band uniforms and supporting a swimming pool for local children. W. H. Hauenstein invited parents to participate during American Education Week and beyond.

Voters to Decide Rec Bond Issue in Rittman

Rittman seeks an 80000 dollar recreation bond at the November election to fund a new recreation area and swimming pool. The levy would be .91 mills for 10 years and pass with 55 percent approval. local groups including the PTA Boy Scouts and Recreation Commission support the measure.

Local Grocery Contest Winners Claim Prizes

Two residents of Rittman and a third winner from Akron receive grocery baskets in the Acme Grocery contest drawing. Nelson Morrow of Akron wins the new Plymouth automobile. The drawing lists 25 prizes in total.

Grass fire and lightning strike trigger two Sunday alarms

A grass fire on Hill Crest Drive caused the first Sunday evening alarm. The second alarm followed a lightning strike on the chimney at James Blatter's home 43 Elliott Street. A small attic blaze started but was extinguished before the fire truck arrived.

Artist Mrs. Ebert Teaches Art Across Ages and Regions

Mrs. Paul Ebert of Fairmont Ave began painting at five and says instruction unlocks talent. She teaches oil painting sketching and drawing in Canton Dover Wadsworth and Canyon with a studio in Canton and a planned home studio opening September 18. Her exhibit at Avalon Canton and works include church commissions and religious scenes as well as Christmas gift paintings.

First Trap Shoot Planned by Rittman Rod and Gun Club

The Rittman Rod and Gun Club will hold its first Trap Shoot of the season on Sunday, September 17, with all are invited to participate. A Rod and Gun Club meeting is set for Monday night, September 18.
