Michelle Lynn Rohrer born August 30 at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital weighing 5 pounds 14 ounces. She joins sister Jill age 3 at home. Grandparents Mr and Mrs Jay Rohrer and Mr and Mrs Vernon Steiner of Rittman.
September 14 features freshmen at Black River with 415 pm start and middle school scrimmages against Triway at 415 pm. Also St Ann Altar Society covered dish dinner at 630 pm in Father Farr Room. Rittman Order of Eastern Star at 730 pm. September 15 Rittman Indians host West Holmes at 8 pm. September 16 Rittman Fagles Pee Wees host Seville Blue Raiders. Rittman Falcon Pee Wees travel to Medina to face Medina Mustangs. high school junior varsity hosts Waynedale at 9 am. September 18 Rittman Board of Education meets at high school library at 8 pm. Sterling PTA at 8 pm. September 19 American Legion meets at Legion Hall at 8 pm. September 20 Grandmothers Club meets at Doris Palmer home 163 North First Street at 1 30 pm.
The Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Ohio, Order of the Eastern Star, Craig McCartney, and Grand Representative Connie Mc Cartney will be honored at a reception on Saturday September 16 at the Middle School in Rittman. The event begins at 7 pm and members are urged to attend.
The Rittman Grand Squares announce a fall dance on September 23 from 8 to 11 pm at Rittman Middle School with Dick Mackey of Wooster as caller. A second special dance is planned for October 22 at 8 05 pm at the same venue with Ron Schneider at the caller's table.
Columbia Gas of Ohio announces a new program about Alaska titled Whats It All About describing the land of the midnight sun and the search and transport of natural gas. Wesolek, manager in Rittman, said the program covers humorous and serious aspects of gas exploration in the Arctic and its potential delivery to Ohio homes.
Howard M Schorle 71 of Sterling died Thursday afternoon at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after becoming ill at home. Born April 16 1901 in Milton he worked 22 years at Packaging Corp of America and later at Maibachs of Sterling retiring in 1969. Survived by wife Maybelle son James of Rittman daughter Nancy Simmons of McComb four sisters and three grandchildren. Services held Saturday Gillman Funeral Home burial Crown Hill Cemetery Sterling Rev William F Harris officiated.
Voter registration will be held at the Rittman Police Station from 12 noon to 9 pm on September 21. This is the lone opportunity for Rittman residents to register. The announcement also notes a talk titled Whats It All About by Joy Washburn or Linda Kurtz about environmental concerns linked to Arctic gas pipeline projects.

The Western Reserve Girl Scout Council reports a 1972 budget of 336934 with 336734 expenses and 336734 income sources from United Fund contributions, retail sales, investments, rentals, and camping. Rittman houses 190 Girl Scouts with 280 allocated from United Fund. council salaries total 192780 and program expenses cover travel, printing, occupancy, and activities like ecology and park cleanup in Rittman.
The Rittman area Girl Scouts engage in multi program work with Mennonite Nursing Home and local facilities. Activities include tours of Frito Lay Wooster, Easter food drives, paper drives, birch tree donations to Rittman High School, Cedar Point trips, bike hikes, swimming parties, and council wide events such as Dolly Derby and Camp activities. The Council reports 18,408 members with Rittman comprising 1 percent or about 190 scouts.
Lindsey Williams of Rittman was elected Friday night to the platform resolutions committee of the State Republican Convention in Columbus. The election occurred at a Sixteenth Congressional District caucus in Canton. Williams, a delegate for the Ohio Assembly race, will draft resolutions ahead of the convention and serve alongside other district leaders.
At a Monday Rittman council meeting, Delores Wright nominated Mrs Allan Broadhurst of 31 North Metzger to the Planning Commission. Unanimous approval followed after a vacancy arose from Robert Nitz moving to Michigan, with Jas Griffith’s partial tenure leaving a seat open. Broadhurst joins John Zivick, Jay Griffith, Charles Hardiman, and City Manager Robert Trimble.
City Manager S Robert Trimble said the police took care of a mini bike after an officer stopped a youth riding it at dusk. The youth left the bike by the road and walked away. owner urged to claim the mini bike at the Rittman Police Station.
The Rittman Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly luncheon at 12 noon next Tuesday September 19 in the Wayne Savings & Loan Community Room on North Main Street with rear entrance. After lunch John Lunter will present a film about growth harvesting and use of redwood trees.
Final plans for the fourth annual Apple Festival are announced by Chairman Marvin Hummel with events nightly under the banner To please the Palate. Miss Mary Lou Patterson will appear October 6 at the festival grounds and during the Rittman Dunlton football halftime. Entry deadlines and parade/booth details are shared with local clubs and schools.
