By IKE GONLEY President Hoover notes mountain children lack schooling and commissions a committee to raise funds for a schoolhouse. Citizens rally quickly to plan a building, hire a teacher, and begin bells tolling as efforts to educate the region unfold amid political jests and local chatter.
Gatehouse starred with four hits and three runs as the Jackrabbits beat the Hometown bus drivers in a tense late inning at bat. Rauchenberg, Starilsino and Schaad contributed multi hit performances as Gatehouse’s team led through a potential rally in the eighth before a strikeout ended the threat.
Mrs. John Denoke, 63, sister-in-law of Albert Denoke of Rittman, was found dead in bed at the Denoke home in Paradiss near Smithville after midnight Saturday. She is survived by her husband, four children, seven grandchildren, and two infants who died in infancy. Funeral services were held from the home at 1 PM and from Paradise Union Church at 1:20 PM Monday, conducted by Rev. Mumaw.
A machine at the Ohio Boxboard injured Slim Yarman when his right hand was drawn into an offset score machine while feeding caraboard. The incident clipped off the first joint of his fourth finger.
The Goffinet Theatre finishes a new drapery installation to cover the screen when films are not showing. The soft velvety folds also serve as an advertising median displaying local business names. The improvement complements talkies, good films, and comfortable seating for an excellent entertainment run.
Miss Marjorie Steplinder and Miss Elizabeth Hershey entertained Monday evening September 9 in honor of Miss Esther Bratigan. Three tables of bridge formed the entertainment followed by a luncheon at a beautfully decorated table with pink and white decor, astera centerpiece and tapers.
Mr and Mrs John Vetter escaped serious injury when their sedan struck a westbound Erie freight train at about 12 30 today on Main Street. Mrs Vetter suffered a cut from flying glass. both were shaken and taken home on Sterling Road by Joe Wald.
A new enterprise in Rittman begins production of a patented medicated salt. The founder, previously active in Mansfield, procures salt from Ohio Bait Co. Local machines were installed recently, and the building leased from Philip Yochhelm sits across the Bard railroad track south, previously held by a Nash motor car dealer for years.
From Corinth, Ontario, Canada, a letter proves toy balloons travel long distances when released. Charles Hershey of 788 Main St released a balloon with his address last Wednesday at 4 a.m. The next morning it was found far across the border in Canada, per Bruce Dreyer of Elgin County. A sister balloon was released simultaneously but has not yet returned.
Amstutz and his wife, formerly of Cleveland and now in New York City, visited aide John Hickin in San day. Amstutz has accepted a position as assistant professor in a Columbia University department, to be remembered by Mary Hittmann, a local resident from when he was two years old.
Regular meeting of Rittman Review No. 474 of W. Bu-Agi held Tuesday night September 10 with attendees present. Refreshments will be served after the session.
An annual orchards meeting and banquet occurred at the Rittman Orchards Co premises on a Wednesday evening. Chairman William Mathews from the Horticultural Society toured the orchard with attendees and praised its upkeep. Stockholders heard reports, which were presented and accepted after the banquet.
A three day practical forestry tour in Ohio is open to enthusiasts. The Department of Forestry Abrlauttarat Extension Service and Ohio Forestry Association organize it starting Sept 12 from Marietta Forest Nursery, visiting Atte Forests Athans Hocking Lawrence Scioto and ending Sept 14 at Sefoto Transforeat. Foresters lead the tour. participants cover transport meals and camping gear. County agents will receive route details and a special letter by Extension Forester F W Dean Wooster.
Gas service will be shut off Saturday from noon to 6 pm for repairs. Readiness notices urge turning off stoves lights hot water tanks and appliances to prevent gas leaks or explosions when supply returns.
The Ladies' Bible Class of the Presbyterian Church hosted fellow members for social time and games. Organizer July and August birthdays were celebrated, with Mrs. V A Garver leading a program. A brief society note mentions Valley Forge and a young Hole-in-One Club member connected to Sidnay Cottartz.
Mrs Henry Gottwatt of Barberton loaned to Mrs C Tandis of Wittman when Sunday misfortune struck. While descending a stair at the Landa home about 40 minutes from Barberton she fell injuring her shoulder and elbow, splitting the upper arm bow, with head injuries. A Tarborton doctor moved her to Barberton Hospital. she is about 80 and in a very arbi ent condition.
The John Ward Store bought Petit Haberdashery last Friday, adding a liven store to the chain. Ward Stores seek Rutman foothold for six months, with outlets in Youngstown, Newton Falls, Girard, and Barker Falls. Manager L J Ragosin plans to clear out current stock to strengthen Rutman, with future shed upgrades and a barber shop to be added.
A church wedding took place in Norwalk on Friday for Mr. Jamar Alam Bielis and Mrs. tutes tratned. The ceremony was performed by the groom’s father Ray Shields, with relatives Stonderikson and Platter attending and Robert Platter serving as usher. The reception followed at the Norwalk Country Club.
Robert Imhoff seven month old son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Imhoff died last Tuesday at People's Hospital in Wooster. Funeral services set for 1 30 p m tomorrow at Apostolic Church in Rittman with interment in church cemetery. A D L Ebert in charge.
Mrs Mabel McMaster of Rittman wins a divorce from Henry McMaster on grounds of neglect with no children. They married February 28 1027. Wayne Carver represented her. McMaster did not contest.
Rotary members gathered for a luncheon address focused on the Constitution. Attorney Burrows of Akron spoke clearly on the object of the address, while Supt D Ricrey Saville and Charles Behmldt of Woo ter Faia eel teeeent aren attended.
In Rittman on Tuesday the Commland Presbytery meeting lists An Giieawl as feature, with Milton Presbyterian Church in Ritenay hosting. The program includes Leroy Lawther of Lakewood and Dan Hula discussing Evangelian themes, inviting attendees to hear past speakers and enjoy a public meeting prior to the regular session.
Fisher departs Friday on a long journey through Western Canada for his yearly vacation. His party includes Mrs. Dibba of Gibbs Motor Co. They plan to reach the lakes and wilds near Vancouver Island for anticipated trophies, with further trophies expected in October.
Amateur boxing notes a Kilite heavyweight slated for a four round bout at the Firestone Clubhouse in Akron. Sponsor Mr Paul Sheets promotes the event. Kite is tipped to weigh about 200 pounds in fighting trim. Fellow heavyweight Kriate and the veteran Scot Hermeén are mentioned as notable figures in the period.
John Hilty, 80, died Monday evening at his nephew c B Hilty’s home near Orrville after a long illness. He was unmarried and had lived around Rittman for years. Funeral services at 2 o clock from the Apostolical Church Milton Township with interment at Wither mate church cemetery. Abert is in charge of funeral arrangements.
