Last Tuesday noon the bell in the belfry fell after 22 years of service. The event occurred as repairs were underway, with preparations for a new fate work and ongoing restoration efforts noted at Wark. The incident follows a period of quiet before the community resumes activities after vacation.
Neighbors Day at Akron featured visitors from Rittman hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. All members except one attended the Tuesday session at Mrs Harald Brakewood's home to begin the season after summer. Attorney Wayne Garver presented a talk on Willis. Mrs A H Thomas became president. Mrs B Hickin reviewed Faery Lands of the South Seas. Mrs F A Longe...ker read on Crime causes and effects. A museum visit to Cleveland was planned in October. Transportation committee named with Mrs Verneveenart and Mrs V A Garver.
Sheriff Shearer and deputies raided a place near Doylestown Tuesday night and captured a still, 50 gallons of mash, and liquor. Clarence Roach of Barberton was charged with operating a still and jailed in Wayne County. He pleaded not guilty at probate court arraignment and his case is set for next week.
A local joy ride honored Mr and Mrs Ferdinand Schrieber Jr last Thursday evening. Despite a noisy procession that suggested many cars, only nine vehicles participated. The celebrated couple reside in a new State Street bungalow.
A radio broadcast features 4-H, North Carolina and New Jersey speakers from Washington and New York stations. The program includes music and talks by club members and extension officials, beginning at a local standard time as the Southern states discuss club work.

The Nash Garage of Wooster bought the South Main Street property from Dr C C Cregg this week. Clayton Dohner acquired ownership. he will be retained as manager and service department head. A contractor began front measurements Tuesday to remodel into a drive-in service station with an improved Nash showroom.
Former Center Guilford school teachers and alumni will hold a reunion on Sunday September 29 at Guilford Township Mall one fourth mile east of the old school site. Former teachers and pupils are invited, each attendee should bring their own table service for the picnic dinner. Plans for the program are not yet complete.

Harold Reed resumes training after eight weeks of jaw recovery from a complete fracture suffered June 4 in Youngstown. XRays show precise knitting and healing under Dr C C Gregg, who allowed movement with wire support instead of a full plaster cast. Reed, now employed at Wadsworth, reports a strong but still weak jaw as he returns to boxing duties.
A program of two minute talks on My First Job by each member at the Rotary luncheon this week proved interesting. Last week's meeting was suspended to allow members to visit the Cleveland Rotary Club for air races. Members who did not attend made up attendance at nearby clubs. Attorney Dan Funk of Wooster spoke at Wadsworth Tuesday explaining the Tax Limit Amendment to be voted on by Ohio voters this fall.
Miss Florence Limb who has been county treasurer for four years turned the books over to the newly elected treasurer Dan Yoder of Orrville. Limb has served as deputy and treasurer for 25 years and has served the office most efficiently.

The Village Solicitor and local authorities seek calm while a truck license dispute triggers legal action. Seegal is jailed for unlicensed truck operation, Mills captures the scene, and the incident centers on a perceived overreach by mayor and marshal amid a small town’s uneasy state.
Stucky of Cleveland and Roy Qualman of Rittman were married by Rev B S Hendrickson at the Presbyterian manse last Saturday. The bride, a Cleveland Schools teacher, wore white crepe. Attendants included Joan Quaiman and Miss Brucky. The couple planned a Niagara Falls honeymoon, then home to Sheldon Ave after a trip east.
Dan Taylor, 21, Wooster athlete and Wooster school graduate, drowned in O'Dell's Lake Sunday evening, possibly due to cramps. Kenneth Danner tried to save him but could not keep him afloat. He lived with his parents on a farm north of Wooster. Funeral held Wednesday afternoon at home conducted by Rev. Black.
Rittman is among communities saluted for its large turnout at the National Air Races and Aeronautical Exposition held at Cleveland’s municipal airport and Public Auditorium from Aug 24 to Sept 4. The event drew nearly 400000 visitors, featured a floral parade, vast aircraft displays including a $400000 model trimotor, and performances by military squadrons plus aviator legends. Louise Thaden and Phosbo Ohmiir won in their classes, while cross country women’s races marked a historic first.
