Adkins Indicted For Manslaughter In Gillette Death
Wayne County Grand Jury indicts Verlin E. Adkins 26 for manslaughter in the August 9 death of Mrs Birdie Gillette 34. After 11 witnesses, the charge was reduced from first degree murder. Adkins to be arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Monday with trial date likely set then. The jury also indicted Mike Reno on a larceny charge to be arraigned Monday.

Mayor's Court Hears 11 Cases In Week
The following cases before Mayor Melvin Ritter this past week include Claude Lambert fined 10 dollars and costs for reckless driving and Robert Rogers fined 10 dollars for insufficient brakes. Cletus Goffinet received a 50 dollar fine with 25 suspended and one year probation for leaving the scene. Logan Beery found guilty and fined 25 dollars plus 10 for license. William Hayton fined 10 dollars for driving without license. Raymond Muller fined 10 dollars for permitting an unlicensed driver. Leonard Hooser fined 4.50 for assault and battery by his wife. Frank Wilson and Dale Trent fined 75 and 25 dollars respectively with probation after suspension of most fines for assault and disturbing the peace. Glenn Musser fined 200 with 100 suspended and one year probation for selling beer to minors. Raymond Winkler fined 25 for reckless driving and 10 for license violation.

League Bowling Opens in Rittman With Multiple Leagues
The Rittman Recreation bowling season starts this week with the B league inviting two more teams if enough players join. A league begins Thursday and the Ladies league follows next Monday. Special Village Meeting Approves Local Projects
A village council special meeting at City Hall approved issuing notes to finance sidewalk construction in Rittman and to be retired when bonds cover costs. An ordinance levying a street oiling assessment is payable at Rittman Savings Bank by October 8 1948. Bonds of 5000 were authorized to fund sewer construction on Fredrick Street and Sunset Street. other legal measures passed.
