Holiday season hints and local notices from Rittman. Santa visits planned at the Community Building via the Chamber of Commerce. School closings wa rnings on WWST radio. Community birthdays anniversaries births and weddings listed. local residents mentioned with names and dates.
City Manager Charles Mann says the Green River Ordinance banning door to door sales has achieved its purpose in three months. No firms have attempted direct selling. churches and residents may visit but only for non selling purposes. Some local salespeople now support the law as it keeps out inferior products. The ordinance passed 4-3 after months of debate with Mayor Houglan casting the deciding vote.
Rittman residents will join a Community Thanksgiving service at First Brethren Church on South First Street starting at 9 am. Rev Lawrence Orcena of Wesleyan Methodist Church delivers the Thanksgiving message with Pastor Charles W Turner hosting. Sponsoring churches include Rittman Ministerial Association and several local congregations.
A plan for a Boys and Young Men club in Rittman aims to run from ages 12 to 18 with activities like rifle and pistol training, shooting matches, camping, hiking, mechanics, motors, rescue teams, community service, dances and movies. Contact Marvis Carmichael at 925 4476 after 5 p.m. to learn more.
Local Cubs schedule three months of events with a Christmas party on December 17 and a pack meeting led by Mrs Frank Hisem. January features the Pinewood Derby with Bodager Agency selling kits and James Shank promoting early participation. The season closes with the Blue and Gold Banquet, with service groups invited to contact Shank or Robert Bodager for details.
Ten year old Terry Atwood sues Terry's father Charles Atwood in common pleas court for 15000 alleging negligence after a dog owned by Billy and Joan Tester bit him two years ago. The filing cites injury mental shock and physical harm. Testers live at 72 North Fourth Street and JoanTester resides in Doylestown.
Morton Salt Company plant in Rittman reported an all time October production high of 28 450 tons. Plant Manager Howard E Young credited extended equipment operation and 24 7 production. The facility employs about 285, reflecting Morton Salt’s long history in the town dating to 1898 and its growth through mergers and new fields.
RAID board announce sale of 79 shares at 510 each to raise working capital and fund an industrial park site purchase in excess of 50 acres. James Frye notes price increase due to value. a stockholder committee will discuss relocation with a Pennsylvania manufacturer. Dividend of 5 per share approved. board elected David Wright and re-elected William Davis and Harold Brown.
The Wadsworth-Rittman Area Hospital membership drive runs through November 30 after approval by campaign chair Ben Bodager. Membership is $3 annually, with canvassers including Pat Peterman Sally Dalbey Dorothy Bauer Betty Maus Jo Arnold and many others assisting in calling on residents.
Mrs. Hickin 75 former Rittman resident dies Monday afternoon in Massillon. A registered nurse born in Pennsylvania she lived most of life in Rittman. She was a Milton Presbyterian Church member and Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 423. Survived by son Frank Brattleboro Vermont two daughters Carolyn Pellew Miami Florida and Bertha Fiachetti Water-town New York and several grandchildren.
The annual meeting will be held Saturday December 7 at Williams Restaurant. Canvassers will be honored with certificates of appreciation. A sandwich luncheon will be served with attendees paying 8 cents. Holly Starcher resigns from the Board and a replacement will be named soon.
Special stage and screen show at New Strand Theatre this Saturday November 23 featuring Dracula and the Frankenstein mienster in The Asylum of Horrors. One hour stage show with laughs thrills and chills. Also on screen I Was A Teen-age Frankenstein and The Screaming Seal.
