Community notes mix church events birthdays local meetings and club activities. Lions Club Dee Freed and Earl Franks plan a 6 30 p m gathering at Williams Restaurant. Church groups host Christmas services and youth dances.
A local notice describes Santa arriving by fire truck with sirens at 3 p.m. Saturday, staying until 3, with a 5 to 6 p.m. dinner hour break. He returns Saturdays December 7 and 14 with 1 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. In mid December he appears daily from 1 to 5, stopping at West Ohio Avenue to receive Christmas needs data.
The Rittman shopping area paused for Kennedy funeral services with many merchants closing from noon to p.m. St Ann's Catholic Church and Milton Presbyterian Church held joint services drawing hundreds. Schools and city offices closed, council meeting postponed, and normal business resumed Tuesday as the nation mourned John F Kennedy.
Mrs. Clara E. Gillman 89 of 35 South Fourth Street died Sunday at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital after a month long illness. Born south of Rittman she lived on farms near Rittman and Sterling, then in Rittman 16 years. She belonged to Smithville Church of the Brethren. Survived by son Paul of Doylestown and daughter Ruth of Prescott Arizona, a brother Delbert Amstutz of Seville, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. The Rittman Community Fund elected two year directors Mrs Harry Ditch Mrs Joseph Gaborsky John Hodovan and John Lenhart. One year terms go to Joe Sparks Mary Ethel Cummings and W H Hauenstein. The group heard Attorney C E Bionemus on fund relations with the United Fund Organization, adopted a new constitution, and discussed a clothing center. Funds from the old unorganized group were given to treasurer Lenhart. Applications for aid forms will be available at Rittman City Hall or Superintendent Hauenstein's office.
Councilman Ashton Hall suggests abolishing all council committees in his final meeting before becoming mayor. He lists six reasons citing charter sections, manager relations, and administrative crutches, as council colleagues react and the matter moves to the legislative committee for review.
John Lenhart is expected to be named to the City Council next week to replace Neil Milford who leaves for Newark Ohio. Lenhart, a three year Rittman resident, manages the special loan department at Rittman Savings Bank and lives at 37 Washington Street with wife Flo and their three daughters.
Don H. Jameson 67 of Avon Park Florida died after a short illness. He previously lived in the Rittman Doylestown area 25 years and worked 15 years as an engineer for Seiberling Rubber Company. Burial was in Rittman Cemetery after Masonic services. He is survived by his wife Jane two sons V Jay and Don W Jack Jameson and five grandchildren. Rev James Watt officiated. Funeral services were held at Gillman Funeral Home.
Mrs Anna Sharp 83 of 61 Frederick Street Doylestown died Thursday at Akron City Hospital after a weeklong illness. Born in Wadsworth she lived in Doylestown 54 years and sang in the Methodist Church choir 53 years. Surviving: sons Ned Doylestown Vern Silver Lake Milo Kansas City Kans. daughters Elsie Gantz New Britain Conn Irene Carruthers Akron Betty Jane Kieth Akron Margaret Butler Doylestown. sister Elsie Skillen Indianapolis. 15 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren. Husband E V died 1958.
In a Tuesday council session four veterans eyed their last meeting as they sent the county adopted building code to the Planning Commission for approval. A revised code reduces licensing fees and shifts permit and inspection duties, while council rejects a Chamber of Commerce Christmas lighting donation for now. City Manager Mann reports Nautilus Lane paving finished and John Zivick will act as city manager during his four day absence.
The Wadsworth Rittman Hospital Association pledges to close its membership drive this Saturday after a month of door to door efforts. The aim is 1500 new members at 3 dollars per person yearly to support the proposed hospital north of Rittman, fund land purchase, and launch the final fundraising campaign.

Marian Warren of Doylestown RD 1 sues for damages after an auto crash. Warren seeks 15 000 through attorneys Don Flath and Howard Cahoun. He alleges a Rich Motors car driven by James Landis employee collided with his vehicle.
