Five Girl Scouts in the David Wright family noted

Doylestown Doctor Dies In Michigan Plane Crash

Dr. Glenn E. Cook of Doylestown, a 13 year surgeon, died in an airplane crash near Reed City, Michigan while returning from a deer hunt. He was 40, died on takeoff after refueling, was alone, and had aided with the Rittman Bloodmobile effort last week. He held multiple medical and civic memberships and will be honored with services in Doylestown this week.

Beech Street homes face condemnation push in city

A petition of 30 neighbors demands immediate demolition or condemnation of dilapidated houses on Fredrick and Beech Streets. The Board of Zoning Appeals ruled for condemnation, while Wright’s Grant Street property may be spared until July 1. Fire damage at a Nap Hill Laundromat caused $25 in losses. City Manager Gosney cites potential disciplinary action against Beech Street owner Merle Heffelman and says a consequence could follow if improvements aren’t made within weeks.

School Board Eyes JA Building for Rittman District

The Rittman Board of Education plans to acquire the JA Building for district use including possible offices and storage. Trustees weigh rehab costs and utility as they consider moving the clerk’s office and easing space constraints. Auxiliary police were deputized for evening duty at Rittman High School. The board also moved to hire a coach for junior high baseball or track next spring and approved gym use for Fat Men's Club Monday evenings.

Wayne County Joint Vocational School Seeks 74 Staff Grades

Wayne County Joint Vocational School plans an opening in September 1969 and seeks a superintendent. John R. Lea resigns as county superintendent leaving a vacancy. The school also will hire two social studies teachers two American history teachers three English teachers a home economics coordinator and instructors in food service and occupational work experience. Agriculture instructors in ag mechanics horticulture agricultural business farm management and occupational work experience are listed, along with business office education instructors in office machines and cooperative office practice.

Rittman Mourns First Vietnam War Fatality

The death of Rittman’s first serviceman to fall in Vietnam was reported on Tuesday morning. Parents Mr and Mrs Stanley Armentrout of 209 Industrial were notified by U S Army personnel about the death of their son Stanley Armentrout who had married Lind Rosenberg earlier this year.

Chippewa Watershed Dam Begun Near Chippewa Lake

Work on the Buck Creek Buck Creek Dam the first of an eight dam and channel dredging project has begun near Chippewa Lake. Contracts let property owners signed on costs and benefits with a 72 271 dollar project total. the dam will be 36 feet high with a 30 inch pipe and 91 million gallon flood capacity. Appraisals for the balance of the 3 600 000 watershed project set for February after earlier delays.
