Playgrounds Open Mon in Rittman Summer Program
The Rittman playground program runs June 3 through August 9 under Recreation Director Homer Pyle with Gwen Keen as supervisor and Sue Roth assisting. Three playgrounds operate 9 am to noon: Central Park Mondays and Thursdays, Division Hall Wednesdays, Grandview Park Tuesdays and Fridays. Donations fund most of the operation, and the program ends with the Mardi Gras on August 9.

Swimming pool season tickets on sale at three locations
Recreation officials announce season tickets available at the J. W. Frye Agency Wilson Inc or the city pool. Poppy Drive Raises 388 Dollars in Rittman Meeting
The American Legion Auxiliary reports poppy sales in Rittman totaling 388.11 dollars over the two day annual sale. President Mrs Richard Wenger presided at the Monday meeting with 19 members present. Girls Staters and Junior members will attend the June 10 gathering as guests. A nominating slate prepared by Mrs Wenger was presented for officer elections to be held next month. Members also formed poppy wreaths for Memorial Day grave decorations.

Workers reject four percent raise at Ohio Boxboard plant
Local 150 union members at the Rittman Ohio Boxboard plant turned down a proposed wage increase of four percent effective June 1 with a six cent minimum. About 30 percent attended a meeting at Rittman High School. union president Rudolph Samic claimed no knowledge of the vote. A company spokesman said there have been no discussions since May 23, noted the letter requesting a June 18 meeting, and cited that Ohio Boxboard wages have risen substantially in ten years with March earnings at 210 dollars per hour or 92.82 per week.

Mail box improvement program begins June 3
The annual rural mail box improvement effort runs for two weeks starting June 3, 1957. Properly erected boxes free from weather exposure speed delivery. Owners should inscribe names on the visible side and keep boxes and approaches in good, painted condition.
Safety car check yields over 700 inspected
Police Chief Charles Heffelman calls the two day drive a success as more than 700 cars were checked. Town parades and service stations continue inspections and drivers without a recent check are invited to visit garages for a safety sticker with a possible second check and fines for repeat offenders.
