PTA Scholarships Awarded At Commencement Exercises
Gwen Green and Mary Alice Grant received two Rittman PTA scholarships at last Friday night’s commencement. Ray Rogers, outgoing PTA president, presented the awards. Both graduates will study teacher education at Kent State University this fall. Gwen earns $200 annually for two years. Mary Alice’s is one year with renewal potential. Virginia Snyder won another year of PTA support and also attends Kent State. Francis Thompson and Pat Lichty, from PTA and Christian-Gottwaldt funds, saw two-year awards expire. Francis attends Otterbein College and Pat Muskingum College.

Speedmeter nets nine speeding charges in first trial
The new speed meter on Sterling Ave led to nine speeding charges brought before Mayor John Baldwin. On a trial basis Monday night the device proved effective and Council authorized permanent purchase to place the meter in service, Police Chief Charles Heffelman said.

Tragedy on Farm Tractor Claims 11YearOld Dallas Tucker
Dallas Ray Tucker 11 died after being thrown under a tractor on the Ohio Boxboard Co farm near Rittman. Sheriff reports owner Zimmerman had shown boys how to operate the machine before leaving. Dallas died from internal injuries en route to Akron Hospital. Survivors include parents, five sisters, six brothers, and a grandmother. funeral held at Gillman Funeral Home with Rev. Albert Henry officiating. Interment in Rittman Cemetery.

Midnight swims begin Friday at Rittman pool
The first midnight swims start this Friday night at the Rittman Swimming pool. The pool opens at 9 30 and closes at midnight. Season tickets are sold at the pool per recreation director Homer Pyle. Services held for Mrs. Lillie Bell
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the First Church of Christ for Mrs. Lillie Bell 68 of 261 Industrial St. She died Friday at Wooster Community Hospital after a lingering illness. Born in Montpelier Kentucky she moved to Rittman in 1925 and served 30 years as church pianist. Survived by daughter Mollie Holcomb son Russell four grandchildren brother W. B. Hurt and many relatives. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.

After a year of prep the Wadsworth Rittman Conservation Association filed for federal assistance under the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act. The request aims to develop a work plan for the Chippewa Watershed to curb floods runoff and erosion in Medina and Wayne counties Ohio.

Ohio Boxboard employees vote on strike in June
Results of the strike vote by Local 150 members are not known after a June 18 meeting deadline. About 30 percent voted on May 27. the union rejected a four percent raise and a fourth week of vacation for long service. Management cites cost of living and competition and hopes to avoid a strike with a day to day operation until talks with a conciliator.

In Lucerne Switzerland the Rotary International Convention featured a vast historical pageant for 10 000 attendees. The performance traced Swiss freedoms from 1291 with William Tell as a rallying figure. A circular stage 80 feet square framed the multi scene drama.
