New York The army will call men classified as 1-B for active duty starting June 8. Colonel Arthur W McDermott, NYC selective service director, says the first call will be small and experimental though these men can shoulder a gun and pull a trigger just as well as others.

Mr and Mrs Frank Chapman of RD 1 Doylestown were notified of the death in service of their son Sergeant Sergi Thomas A. Chapman 21 of the Marine Corps. He was killed in a motor accident in service May 18. Chapman had lived in Akron most of his life, attended McEbright grade school and Garfield high school. He enlisted September 18 1940 and was engaged to be married to Mildred Sherman. He leaves his parents five brothers and four sisters in various nearby towns.
A letter to Wadsworth city council from the hospital board requests expansion funds. Council referred the notice to City Solicitor Wayne W. Garver, who explained that the city cannot set aside a special fund for hospital expansion. He outlined bond issues or direct tax levies. Council agreed hospital needs be considered before other major improvements.
Mrs Michael Schmeltzer aged 39 dies at home after Brights disease illness. Funeral Friday at 2:00 PM at the U B Church with Rev Brice officiating. Burial in Rittman Cemetery. Ebert Funeral Home in charge. Also notes infant burial for Mr and Mrs Ralph Gish of Shinerburg.

Birth notices record a 7 lb 5 oz boy named Gorge David born Tuesday morning May 26 to Mr and Mrs Walter Gingery of R. I Wooster at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital. Also listed is a stillborn twin birth for Mr and Mrs Ralph Gish of Shinersburg, two girls, Tuesday morning May 26, and a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Reuben Habeggar of R. D. South on Tuesday morning May 26.
A list of 35 students received eighth grade graduation certificates at Ritman Junior High School. Names include Doyle Ashtrook Donald Baker Bruce Brickel Kenneth Craig James Kanehl Richard Milford Tom Miller Wade Schaffter Ray Twinem James Van Gilder and others. The program also listed seventh and eighth grade honor roll students for the year end, featuring James Kanohl Richard Milford Twinem James Van Gilder Nancy Heiks Evelyn Houglan Jennie Milder Shirley Over Audrey Plahuta and more.
The annual session of the Rittman Vacation Church School runs June 8 to June 26 in the Primary. Open to all community children aged four to fourteen, with four classes for Beginners Primary Junior and Intermed. Parents of eligible children are invited to participate. further details will appear in the next issue of The Rittman Press.
Beginning Monday June 1 the Rationing Board will operate at the Mayor's office City Hall from 1 to 4 30 pm. The canning season is split into two periods cherries and berries to September 1 and September 1 until season end. Families may get one pound of sugar per four quarts of finished product and jelly or preserves limited to one pound per person per year. Each adult must apply and only institutional meals may qualify private clubs must four meals weekly or obtain sugar via contributions.
Chief of Police Chas Heffelman met with FBI officials in Canton on Wednesday for instruction and to view the film Inside the FBI. The visit aimed to study investigative methods and enhance local policing practices.
