Navy school call for David Fredrick in New London

David Fredrick son of Mr and Mrs R V Fredrick of E Ohio left Cleveland Sunday for New London Conn where he has been accepted for the four months training program for officers of the US Navy The course is open only to men with sea experience Fredrick has been on furlough after six months service as electrician on a cargo ship for Ford Motor Co leased to the government He spoke at a Rotary Club noon meeting about his wartime experiences.

Willard Zuber of Seville R D well known builder opens his recently completed Southern-type frame home for public inspection in Rittman on N Third Street near the stadium. Visitors invited Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 6 pm. The house, in the low-cost bracket, will sell to the highest acceptable bid with utilities and features ready for occupancy.

Miriam Clippinger Wins Music Scholarship at Baldwin Wallace

Miriam Clippinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Clippinger of S Main Street, won a four year music scholarship from Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music in Berea Ohio. She took piano tests in Berea last Saturday and will graduate Rittman High School Class of 1942 tied for top scholastic honors. She has not yet indicated acceptance of the Baldwin Wallace offer.

Change of ownership for Holstein registered in Vermont

Holstein fault records show Catalpadale Lady 2278589 changing hands from Harry W Graber of Marshallville to Ledale Amstutz of Rittman R D. The Holstein Friesen Association of America formally recorded the transfer at Battleboro, Vermont.

Class of 1942 Graduates With 45 Members at Ceremony

The Class of 1942 Graduation featured 45 seniors with one listed as in service and two girls sharing the top scholastic honors. The program included processional, hymns, scripture, prayers, sermon titled Conquering the Heights by Rev. D B Davidson, and musical offerings by Joyce Harpster, Ira Smith, and Carl Busch leading to benediction.

Rittman High School Co-Honor Graduates Named

Miriam Clippinger and Margaret Brophy, both top scholastic performers, shared highest honors as co honor graduates in the final year. Clippinger, daughter of G H Clippinger, led commencement planning and activities after her family moved from Cleveland, while Brophy, daughter of E Brophy, is credited as a lead organizer and active in music and extracurriculars.

School Commencement and Baccalaureate Plans for Class of 1942

Sunday evening marks the start of commencement activities with a Baccalaureate service for the class of 1942. The eighth grade graduation is Tuesday, followed by the high school seniors receiving their diplomas Wednesday night. The senior program features an outside speaker, student-led planning, and a red velvet cyclorama bought by the class for over 259 dollars. Joseph Volek will receive his diploma in absentia after joining the armed forces, and May 30 will close the class’s scholastic chapter with the senior prom.

A Memorial Day feature will publish a list of more than 160 names of local men who have gone to the war. The names will appear around a greatly enlarged photo of the Honor Roll sign on the Square as a lasting tribute.

Godfried Ha Drops Dead at Work in Rittman

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Apostolic Church south of Rittman for Godfried Hanne 38 who dropped dead at his work at the Shook Concrete Block plant in Rittman Monday morning. Surviving are his wife, one daughter Mrs William Cunningham and one son Virgil of Ritman R.D. The Ebert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Breede Sworn In As Air Cadet At Columbus Board

William Pranklin Breede of Rittman was sworn in as an aviation cadet at the Naval Aviation Cadet Selection Board in Columbus Ohio. He will attend Naval Air Training for preliminary instruction and be commissioned Ensign upon completion. Breede, formerly with B F Goodrich Rubber Co Akron, is son of Mr and Mrs Howard Breede.

Heavy Two Day Rain Deluge Hits Spring

Last Friday night rainfall reached 0.80 inches while Thursday had 0.71 inches, giving a two day total of 1.61 inches the heaviest spring downpour. Temperature fell sharply to 45 degrees on Saturday morning.

Frank Brenner Dies in Wooster at 42

Frank Brenner 42 of Wooster died at 2am today. He is survived by his mother Mrs Mary Brenner and sister Miss Fern Brenner of Branigan apartments, and by his wife Irene and son Donald of Wooster.

War Labor Support Urged By Cleveland Speaker

Burl A. Whitney of Cleveland told Rotary and guests that organized labor led by the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen is aiding the war effort in a democratic, effective way.
