Decoration Day Ceremony In Rittman Sunday Parade Planned

Decoration Day events proceed in Rittman with a Sunday afternoon parade forming on Erie Street at 1 30 pm and marching to Rittman square then to the cemetery. Richard S Wengerger announces the program including an address by Rev J W Plummer and Gettysburg remarks by J W Frye Jr. Veterans urged to wear uniforms. others include Scouts and the Legion Auxiliary.

Miss Shook Nominated to Attend Presbyterian Conference

Miss Shook was chosen to represent the Hermina Leady Society of Milton Presbyterian Church as a delegate to the national conference of Presbyterian Missionary Women Workers at Purdue University Lafayette Ind in early June. The decision came at a church meeting with 14 members and two guests Mrs Rita Kengworth and Mrs Louise Semler present.

Clarence Skaggs Arrested for Trespass and Burglary Threats

Clarence Skaggs faced two charges including first offense trespassing and malicious destruction of property with a 50 dollar fine and suspended 40 dollars plus costs. The second offense involved entering a house without consent and threatening his former wife Alice Skaggs, with 50 dollar fine and costs suspended and a one year probation. Skaggs is in county jail to cover the fine and costs. Swim season tickets go on sale at Diversion Hall 3:30 to 5 p.m. this week and after next week at the swimming pool.

Welcome Wagon Visits New Rittman Family in May

The Welcome Wagon in Rittman visited the James Barr family at 156 Grand View Ave on Friday May 21. The Barrs relocated from Fairlawn New Jersey and have two sons Coppice and James. Barr works as assistant superintendent of the Fo Folding Carton department at the Ohio Boxboard Company.

Radio Staff Set to Appear at First Church of God

Rev James Blair and radio staff will appear at the First Church of God in Bittmen on Sunday May 30 at 7 30 DST. Blair has trained a large group of youth in Akron area musical careers and conducted revival meetings and singspirations in many churches. A number of musical instrumental and vocal numbers will be performed by these young people. Blair will deliver the evangelistic message with Rev Albert Henry presiding.

Diana Theatre to receive 3-D installation and renovations

The Diana Theatre lease was taken over last Sunday by George Apthorpe Jr and Sr from Frank J Slavik. The eight year lease owner Dr Krickbaum plans 3-D projection equipment, new screen and decorating work while the Apthorpe family moves to Rittman. Harold and Charles Apthorpe, aged 34 and 12, and the parents will relocate as housing is found.

Nellie Northcott 88 Dies After Heart Ailment

Nellie Northcott 88 died Monday evening May 17 at 10:50 from a heart ailment. She came from England 61 years ago and lived in Ak ron before moving to Doylestown. Widow of James Northcott, she belonged to Akron Riverside Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Esther Savage, two grandsons, and two great grandchildren. Services were at Monbar Ren Funeral Home with Rev A M Burkhardly officiating. Burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Four Churches Sponsor Vacation Bible School

Four local churches the Ev United Brethren Church Church of God Wesleyan Methodist and Milton Presbyterian join to run a two week Vacation Bible School from June 7 to June 18 daily 9 to 11 30 am. Rev Dwight B Davidson Rev Virgil Snyder Rev Ibert Henry and Rev J W Plummer lead the joint effort with about twenty-one adults aiding teaching and crafts. Attendance certificates and a recognition service for standout handwork will be awarded. a Friday June 18 picnic closes the program with the theme Pioneering With Christ for children ages 4 to 14.

Seniors To Graduate At Commencement

A total of 54 seniors will receive diplomas at the 59th annual commencement at the Rittman High School auditorium Friday May 28 at 8 p.m. The program features a Pomp and Circumstance procession, invocations, class address by Lewis Smith, solo and quartet performances, and diplomas presented by Frank Watson as principal Sylvan Wiles presides. The National Honor Society list and class officers are noted with colors red and white.

May queen crowned at high school festival amid United Nations theme

Loraine Capley was crowned May queen by Miss Carol Bartram in the high school auditorium. Her court included Anne Clarke and Jim Hilty among others, with flower girls Cindy Dague and Patty Workman and crown bearer Jerry Gordon. The program directed by Mrs Robert Davis and Lester Bekert featured a United Nations themed performance stressing unity.

City council debates housing moves and sewer plans

At a crowded meeting residents protested the Willow Brook housing shift to East Sunset Drive and Seneca Street and the low cost homes on Seneca and State Streets. Officials outlined sewer and water main work, a new Rt. 94 bridge, and street improvements while delaying zoning changes to allow apartment construction only east of Main Street.

Willow Brook housing sale ends June 3 for veterans

Rittman Jr High Plans May 27 Commencement Program

Rittman Jr High will present its commencement program Thursday May 27 at 8 pm in the high school auditorium. The program includes processional Margh Romaine guitar and choir numbers, Psalms 100 reading, invocation by Rev. Dwight B Davidson, essays, solos, mixed chorus pieces, and the benediction by Rev Davidson. Swim Pool Opens Saturday With Weekend Hours

Parking, zoning plans discussed at council meeting

Rittman High Assigns New Football Coach

Doty M. Dipper named football coach at Rittman High replacing Ashton Hall. Dipper, 25, a Muskingum College graduate, previously coached at Rocky River Junior High and played college football. Hall, who has led the program since 1940, will remain as assistant coach and basketball coach.
