At about noon last Monday near Route 94 between Rittman and Wadsworth, O H Wilson a Rittman grocer lost control when canvas covers on a passing truck flapped and impaired sight. His wife suffered severe cuts and bruises. Wilson had minor injuries. Car sustained broken glass and bent fenders.
The Rittman barbers will close their shops promptly at 12:00 noon on Wednesdays from the first week in January and will not reopen in the afternoon.
John E Wolfe Optometrist offers eye exams in Wadsworth Ohio. Mr and Mrs Sam Kerovitz traveled to Cleveland Wednesday on business.
The American Legion in Shinersburg and nearby towns organize a Memorial Day program and parade with a morning itinerary to local service sites. A drum corps leads the parade from 10 15 at the south end of town to the school for a memorial service and flag ceremony. Veterans of Civil and Spanish Wars are invited as guests. Balloons will be given to school children after the ceremony.
Rittman Indians resume action after last Sunday's cancellation with Medina. They face Akron's Polish Falcons, a strong class A squad, on the Rittman athletic field at 3:00 PM. Gottshall likely starts, with Sayer or Miracle in the batter’s box.
A birthday surprise party was held at Mr and Mrs Bill Higy s home on K Ohio Ave in honor of Mrs Higy s birthday. Friends including Mr and Mrs Wm Tyehill, Mr and Mrs Harry Higy, Mr and Mrs Pete Petkoff and son, Mr and Mrs Ellis Baker and baby, Mr and Mrs Albert Mansell, Mr and Mrs Frank Sobaski, Mr and Mrs Earnest Houghter, Mr and Mrs Joe Ollie, Mr and Mrs Herman Powolski, Miss Mary Csunhta, and Mr Edmund Poholski attended. A supper was served at 7 80 and there was card games dancing and music throughout the evening.
Seven members of the Child Conservation League attended the annual banquet of the Rittman Wadeworth Barberton clubs at Brookside Country Club on Wednesday at one o clock. From Rittman the guests were Mrs C R Parkinson, Mrs W J Clark, Mrs Don Marr, Mrs Verne Gebhart, Mrs E S Hendrickson, Mrs Earl Derhammer and Mrs Wm Bodager.
Last Monday’s meeting in the council chambers included the Mayor Clerk and all court officials. A pay ordinance of 808.99 was passed and a contract awarded to Mr Ershan for a sewer project on Seneca Street Ex tension. Auto Club representatives urged rapid completion of the road north of the row. The council instructed contractor A Carpenter to proceed with the work. Legal notices in The Press call for bids on a Ford truck and disposal plant volumes. Debate arose over departmental authority and statutory interpretations, adjournment set to Wednesday with cemetery and square improvements to be discussed.
Thirty five kindergarten pupils walked to the Parkinson estate for a daytime outing. Miss Harter supervised as a pony ride proved the day’s highlight. Mrs Parkinson with Mrs Clark and Miss Harter served a picnic lunch to the group.
Boxing fans learn Frank Kitta will clash with Al Reed in a long awaited Rittman showdown. Both fighters from Rittman, about 18 months in, finally signaled for a May 26 event at the Wadsworth Opera House arranged by Sid Allen of Wadsworth.
Local troops including Rittman Troup 403 placed second at a regional camporee held at Wantworth City Park. Morse Signalling earned first, with various relay and signaling events securing runner up honors as Yovan Boriste oversaw the fist squad and staff awards were presented by D. W. Ramsey.
Mr. and Mrs Alfred Garrad entertained a tie after a euchre evening Tuesday at College Ybject. Guests included Mr and Mrs Chas Goffinet, Win Wilkinson and daughters, Mr and Mrs Arthur Collnet and daughters, and Mr and Mrs Russell Wellingon. The occasion ended with an inch score for Mrs Welling and Mr Brodbreck. dainty refreshments followed.
Orley Philips becomes president and treasurer as the Melrose Orchard Co gains control interests. The orchard, about 80 acres with fruit trees, is now under new leadership amid growing investor interest.
Medina jurors convict Henry Vaughn, pool room proprietor of Wadsworth, of manslaughter for fatally shooting Charles Dawson and Clarence Todrow as they tried to leave his establishment on March 29. Dawson leaves a wife and children. both victims are from Rittman. Sentences range from one to twenty years.
W G Hershey and family indefinitely postpone their planned western trip after a New York telegram directed him to report to an Olin Gan Co. employee. The family hoped to leave for the Pacific Coast this summer but may reschedule later as the state visit continues.
Friends from Rittman Barberton and Wadgworth helped make last Thursday evening special for Frank Schreiber in honor of his birthday. At ten o'clock Mrs Scheiber served a hot chicken dinner.
Mrs Mabel Boyer returned Tuesday to St Francis Hospital in Columbus Ohio for another operation to finish up treatment begun earlier after a several months stay ending in April. She will be away for several weeks.

The Titermediinte and later pans of Mise Mariorie Williams will present a piano recital on Monday evening May 7 at Milton Presbyterian Church. The program includes piano selections duets readings and songs with Clive Burwer on cornet. Several local players and singers join, inviting the public to attend and bring friends.
Thirty one students and graduates received diplomas last Thursday evening. Dr James Engleman president Kent College delivered the address and the class song and orchestra performed. The board president presented diplomas as the stage featured crimson and gray. the class is the largest yet to graduate with many planning college in the fall.
On May 14 a gala event honored 44 junior high students as they received their eighth grade certificates. Supt Garver addressed the class: a first thrill of appearing in the role of a graduate.
Frank Jaquays, 01, a farmer near Rittman, died at home after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and five children. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of A. W. Tlbolt.
The regular W. B. A. Lodge meeting met Tuesday with 23 members. Attendees enjoyed the White Elephant anti Beauty Contest and were urged to attend the next meeting on June 3 and join the beauty contest. Memorial services are set for Friday May 30 at the Rittman dairy at 9 15 AM with members wearing white.
Misa Ethel Rabey daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Rabey will marry Gaylord M Burke of 73 Marvin Ave Akron on May 29 The Rabey family lives on a farm northeast of Orrville and Ming Rabey has taught at Orrville high school for two years Rabey is a 1920 Rittman high school graduate and well known in Rittman

Wayne county C E society gathers for its 39th annual county convention next Sunday at Jackson Presbyterian Church south of Creston on CCC highway. Delegates register from 2 pm with a 2 30 pm prayer service. Fees: 25 cents for seniors and intermediates 10 cents for juniors. Evening awards include most miles traveled for a society largest present from a church or society and most paid registrations by May 26. An afternoon feature is a play The Winning of Bob presented by the Jackson society led by Jeanette Eshelman a Wooster College sophomore.
