Ike Conley notes Mussolini’s boastful war poetry drawing laughter abroad. A chorus mocks his calls for violence while scientists joke that alcohol could replace gasoline as fuel, and the Commerce Secretary predicts a 90 day return to normalcy amid market nerves.
The American Legion announces a Memorial Day schedule starting Friday May 30 with visits to local graves and continuing with events coordinated by civil organizations. A detailed program is printed elsewhere in this edition of The Presa.
The Young Peoples Society of the Presbyterian church elected new officers at a Friday evening meeting. Kathryn Bender was chosen president. Edgar Bolee was elected vice president and Evelyn Baker secretary treasurer. After business a social time followed.
Raymond Snyder hosted the Jolly Twelve club Tuesday afternoon at her Fourth Street home. All members attended along with Miss Lizzie Reed of Akron and Mrs Michael Schmeltzer of Rittman. The gathering featured games, readings by Mrs Schmeltzer and refreshments served by the hostess.
The Rittman Central Park schedule lists dozens of reunions and events from May through September 1930. Entries include Berkey Stutzman, Mobler and Smiley reunions, Grange meetings, picnics, and the Wadsworth and Shanafelt gatherings, marking a packed community calendar.
A Fraser-Young truck and a Trailor driven by Spike Hoover left Route 94 south of Rittman and overturned into a ditch Friday afternoon. The driver escaped injury, freight scattered, lines and fencing damaged, and aid from Prager-Young helped clear the scene. Blame blamed on narrow road and gravel shoulder.
Mrs. Ralph Overholt’s girls Sunday School class entertained Mr. Lao’s boys class with a farm outing at Lake Beachy farm last Tuesday. They enjoyed a roast with trimmings, games until dark, and a large barn loft party with home made ice cream. Attendance exceeded expectations.
Mr and Mrs Wil Brenneman attended the Monday afternoon services for S. C. DeVinney. The Rev J. Eugene Younger conducted at Bevington funeral home with the ceremony led by WT Hont Feal CotES. DeVinney, a Civil War veteran, was a relative of Mrs Brenneman.
The Sunday school of the Presbyterian church will hold a Children’s Day service next Sunday morning at 9 45. The church services and the children’s program will be a joint merling or meeting.
The Auxiliary ladies held a poppy sale last Friday and Saturday in Tiel and reported strong success despite hard times. They still have about 200 poppies on hand to sell on Thursday.
Mrs Sarah Orr wife of L J Orr of Wooster died Wednesday at her home after an appendicitis operation She was 72 years old and previously lived near what is now Gettings preparty south of Rittman She leaves daughters Nett Orr Gates Sadie Douglass Ida DeVittiney Eva Hix son Walter Orr and others Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p m from the Market Street Wooster residence.
The W M A Otterbein Mothers Daughters Banquet occurred Thursday evening May 22 in U B Church parlors starting at 6 30. Mrs E Fritz of Wadsworth presided as president of the Enat Ohio Branch and was the principal speaker. A playlet In the Garden was presented by ten girls alongside special music completing the evening. Over 65 attended this tenate.
Dorothy Black of Creston and Bart Walker of Wittman wed last Saturday at 4 pm in the Acme Lutheran church parsonage Wadawearth. The ceremony was private with immediate family present. The bride wore white georgette and yellow tea roses, and the couple will reside in Rit ten an.
The Community Picnic committee announces the annual event will be held Saturday August 2 at Chippewa Lake with details being finalized.
The Tarvelers Club held a Tuesday evening appreciation party for Mrs Don Marr and Airs. Charles Holderbaum who donated a quilt. The donors received a lovely bedspread as thanks while the guests enjoyed games.
Miss Mary Gibler traveled to Cleveland last week for lectures and demonstrations by M Paul of Chicago, a famed French hairdresser. Paul argues the fad for long hair is over and the modern, well groomed woman wears clipped locks.
I thank all who visited me and sent flowers and cards during my hospital stay. I am grateful for the kindness shown to my family.
Promising heavyweight Reed Kayoes Kitts of Rituman quickly defeats Frank Kita of Rituman by first round knockout in the main event at Sir Allen's fall to punch BHT show on May 7 21. The victory marks Kitts first loss after a long unbeaten streak as fans anticipate his next bout against Tiny Debold in Ashtabula.
Miss Florenca Lendy completes three years at Akron City hospital and receives a 60 prize for scholarship at graduation exercises held by First Presbyterian Church Akron. Attending from here were Supt and Mrs Garver, Mrs Ashbrook, Mrs Zimmerly, Mr and Mrs Burkett and Agnes, and Mr and Mrs Henry Landy and family. Florence will remain at the hospital pending the state exam next December.
Judge H B Swartz of Wooster praised Milton Twp progress during a Legion meeting attracting larger attendance. The talk covered pre Civil War incidents and local happenings, with Attorney Garver serving as committee chair for the program.
From Stonington Word received from Stonington Col states that Mrs Nettle Gelainger who underwent an operation for wall stones about four weeks ago is improving She is a sister to Mrs Chan Gish andry being cared for at the home of a daughter.
Herbert Kauffman residing about four miles northwest of Rittman underwent rupture surgery at Wadsworth hospital Monday and is reported to be improving.

Mia Peart Steiner and Charles Beltin announced their marriage at a bridge party held last Friday May 23 at Mia’s North Third Street home. Attendants included hostesses Mia Ralph Overhott and guests from Wooster, Wadsworth, Norton Center and surrounding areas. plans call for a home near Rittman Towers.
Vaughn Kenry and Wadaworth were recaptured near Chippowa Creek by Medina County deputies after an escape from Wadaworth jail. Both men faced burglary charges and were held under guard awaiting trial. The pair had allegedly pried a stone lyova from the jail rear with an iron bar and fled at night. Kenry faces a penitentiary sentence ranging from five to twenty years for the fatal shooting of Charles Dawaoin and Clarence Todraw at Dominic Cuceclala's Wadworth resort on March 29.
Mrs. Anna Norton led a piano recital at the Presbyterian church featuring duets with Norton and Norma Jean Tyler, and performances by Eleanora Conkey, Gladys Bolcher, Mildred Snyder, and many others. The program included works by Diller, Dovack, Schubert, Bohm, and Mozart among others.
