Rittman High School Holds Commencement Exercises

Rittman High School graduates Basil Hardgrove Wendell Long Dorothy Schorle Mary Castor Esther Andersen Nazel Hoff received diplomas from the Board of Education for completing a four year course. The ceremony featured President J E McGilvry of Kent State Normal College as speaker, with music, class motto Rowing not drifting, and remarks by Vice President C C Gregg.

Ludwig Guessing Contest At Local Jewelry Store

The Ludwig jewelry store held a guessing contest for Rittman High School graduates. Hazel Hoff won by guessing the clock would stop at 9 20, but it stopped at 10 35. Mary Castor was next with 12 o’clock. The stunt drew much interest among graduates.

Turner Barber Shop Changes Hands and Local Price Hikes

Joe Sherrick has become sole owner of the Turner barber shop after purchasing Charles Turner’s stake. Turner will retire soon, planning to work in a Rittman factory. Rittman barber shops posted price increases to 40 cents for a haircut and 26 cents for a shave due to higher costs. Alfred Petit sold the drag business to Gatehouse & Ritter. Petit opens a soft drink and near beer venture nearby. A foreigner unknown to the article plans a near beer saloon opposite Brenneman Grocery on Salt Street.

War Chest Quota Paid in Wayne County Relief Drive

Rittman directors contributed 2180 dollars to A Dix the treasurer of the Wayne County Council of National Defense as the townships race to meet their county quota by May 1 for seven relief organizations. Milton Chippewa and Canaan townships lag behind with substantial shortfalls.

Auto overturns near Rittman injuring passenger Amstutz

Jesse Young's car overturned in a ditch after a collision with a car from Seville driven by Leatherman on the cider road near a small bridge east of Rittman. Amstutz sustained a broken shoulder and was taken home after initial medical care. Young and Hull suffered only minor scratches as the vehicle suffered extensive damage.

Highland man undergoes serious operation at Wooster hospital

Lewis Highland formerly of Cleveland and now in Rittman was operated on at a Wooster hospital for the removal of a pussack. He had been in serious condition for several days after the operation but was reported improving on Wednesday.

Clocks Turn Back In Rittman Amid Factory Sync

Rittman residents observed the one hour fall back on Sunday with no public opposition. Ohio Boxboard Co and Ohio Salt Co posted notices, while local factory clocks were adjusted to match central standard time. Working hours remain 6:30 to 11:30 and 12:30 to 4:30, aligned with nearby towns.

Sterling Commencement at U B Church in Sterling

The sixteenth annual Sterling high school commencement was held at the U B church with graduates Bertha Johnson Zelda Lance Earl Muller Harvey Amstutz and Paul Davidson. A picnic followed and the school won a county spelling cup and a W S banner with total sales of 5706.

Hazel Fenn Divorced in Wooster Common Pleas Court

Hazel Fenn of Rittman was granted a divorce from her husband in Wooster after a nine year marriage. They separated about three years ago and have three children, two of whom live with the husband in Pennsylvania. The couple formerly resided at Chippewa Lake before the separation. The wife testified of abuse and cruelty, and attorney Karl Hoover represented Mrs Fenn.
