Orrville Priest Made New Rotary Governor for Year

Rev. Charles Hoot, pastor of the Orrville Catholic parish, was elected unopposed as governor of Rotary District 157 at the Mariah conference. He succeeds Harold Covault of Lorain and will oversee more than 40 clubs from Akron to Indiana line. Ernest Harrison of Rittman chaired the nomination and election committee during the district gathering.

Harrison Invited To Speak At National Editorial Assn Convention

Ernest Harrison publisher of The Rittman Press and Wayne County Farm Hand was named to the speaking program at the National Editorial Association convention in White Sulphur Springs West Virginia June 20 21 and 22 The topic set by President William Loomis is What Community Service Must a Newspaper Reader Harrison will open with the subject at a round table and lead the discussion The Rittman Press won third prize in Ohio for community service in 1937 Ralph Immel is editor of the paper.

Town Meeting on WPA Paving Project in City Hall

A town meeting of all Ritman citizens and property owners is held tonight at 8 in City Hall to take action on the proposed WPA paving project for the village. Everyone interested is invited to attend.

Rittman Public Library Announces Summer Hours

The library will shift to new summer hours starting June 1 under Librarian Mrs. Arthur Paul and library committee chair K W Osborne. Saturday afternoon hours are removed and weekday evenings extended to three two-hour blocks with noon and after school periods dropped for schoolchildren. New schedule includes Monday 2 4 pm and 6 9 pm. Wednesday 6 9 pm. Friday 2 4 pm and 6 9 pm. Saturday 6 9 pm.

Rittman Area High School Commencement Plans

High School Commencement plans for Rittman and neighboring towns list graduates for two ceremonies. The May 27 event at 8 p m in the High School Auditorium features senior names led by Ivemee Beck and Doris June Burger with many classmates including Charlotte Mays Buris and Ruth Ive Groff. A second ceremony on May 20 at Saint Michael s Evangelical includes orchestra performances, salutatory by Howard Poetter and valedictory by Junior Service Plano Duet Berardy Parsons and Helen Baer, followed by diploma presentations by Henry E Kornhaus and the Baughman township board of education.

Commencement Exercises At Rittman High School

The program lists a processional and musical pieces including clarinet duets by Gotschall and Ebbs, with Rev C J McGee giving benediction. Dr McAlister was unexpectedly hospitalized for an emergency operation and will not speak at the commencement. Superintendent Garver will arrange a replacement. none has been secured yet.

Community Fund Holds Short Meeting Tuesday

Continuity fund committees held a brief Tuesday night meeting with Hive business to discuss. Mayor Baker reported. Several old cases were reviewed with no action taken. Authorized payments totaled 77.96 dollars. W A Garver reported on surplus crops being distributed by the Wayne County Re Haf committee. It was noted 68 people from Rion are working on WIAA.

Birth at the zoo announces new monkey in Rittman park

Mr E Lance reports a baby monkey born Sunday in the Rittman city park. The infant is thriving, but no statement was issued from the parents. The column also surveys Dutch dining etiquette and local curiosities from barber shops to flower displays.

The City band began practice Thursday night in the municipal building from 8 to 10 p m in preparation for Decoration Day.

New Display Windows Added To Two Rittman Buildings

Work began Monday on a new glass front for Lance Bros. grocery store. New show windows with modernistic decorations were installed and finishing touches were due by week’s end if weather allows. Simultaneously, Citizens Savings and Loan Co. also began similar window and decorative work next to Lance Bros. grocery.

American Legion Poppy Poster Winners Named

The Howard A. Bair post with art teacher Misa Laurabel Mooney hosted a poster contest. About 60 entries from 7th and 8th graders earned awards for Norma Marie and Bertha Faye Artrip, Shirley Palmer, Mona Skelly, and Helen Ruth Conover. Conover’s poster goes to state competition in July. cash prizes awarded May 23. Local ads will feature winning posters for the Ohio Veteran made poppies sale on May 27 and 28. A school play by SS Peter and Paul pupils, The Bandman’s Minstrel, is set for May 29 at La Salle auditorium.

Motion Picture Cooking School Attracts 300 Women

A free motion picture cooking show titled Star In My Kitchen drew about 300 women over two afternoons in Rittman. The event, sponsored by the Rittman Press and local merchants, featured colorful reels and live humor, with housewives receiving printed recipes and a chance to win prizes, including a grand electric toaster.

Rittman Man Sentenced To 90 Days In County Jail

Nelson Boyes of Rittman was tried before Mayor Roy Baker on a disorderly conduct and resisting an officer charge. He was fined $65 and sentenced to 0 days in the county jail. He was taken to the county jail Monday morning by Marshal SMA after arrest on April 12.

A 12 member Rittman senior cast closed their high school dramatic season with the comedy Annis Nelson Time. Funeral Services Held For Rittman Woman Julia Felix

Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at the home and St. Anne's Church for Mrs. Julia Felix 48 of 136 right Bt. She died Wednesday after an illness of nearly four years. Rev T Farrell officiated and burial was in St. Anne's cemetery. She was born in Hungary and had lived in Kittman 20 years and in the United States 31 years. She leaves her husband Fred, one son Joseph at home, and ten daughters all at home.
