Rittman Council Discusses Sidewalk Plans and WPA Paving

Village council reviews possible several hundred feet of new sidewalk and a WPA street paving plan. Mayor Baker outlines cost sharing 60 percent to property owners and 40 percent village with 2.10 per front foot and 10 year payments. Services Held For Doylestown Veteran Milos Shank

Milos Shank 40 a World War veteran died Sunday night at Dayton Veterans Hospital. Funeral was Thursday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated by Rev George W Dittmar. Burial followed at Chestnut Hill cemetery with F A Frase in charge. Survived by widow Emma Smith Shank two sons William and Robert at home three daughters Marion Eleanor Dorothy at home one brother Howard Shank Mount Rose and two sisters Etta Edwards Clinton area and Florence Hertle of Doylestown.

Summer Program Opens With Rittman Merchants Play

The Rittman merchants baseball team hosts undefeated Akron Burkhart Beers Sunday in the opening summer recreation game. New uniforms, an opening ceremony with Mayor Baker tossing first pitch, and Marshal Heffelman catching highlight the event. Tony Tucciaridi may umpire as negotiations continue. If the new athletic field is ready, the game is there. otherwise it moves to the South End field. Admission is free.

Eight Rittman Students Win Kent Scholarship Awards

Eight Rittman High School students earned spots in the Kent scholarship tests last Saturday. Twenty two local entrants competed in schools under 400 enrollment. Certificates of recognition were presented Wednesday afternoon by Principal L. L. Haney.

Wayne County Drug Association Elects Officers and Renames

A meeting at the Hotel Wooster Monday night decided to rename the group the Wayne Drug Association and expand to include Wayne Medina Holmes Ashland and Stark counties. A Hester of the Social Security office in Reid urges employers to stop listing workers past 65 without social security numbers. Employees must apply to get their own numbers by personal visit or mail, as Ohio prepares to begin unemployment benefits January 1.

Five Band Members Earn Medals in Spring Concert

The Cadet and Concert bands earned medals after their first annual spring concert directed by Mr Frederick Ebbs in the high school auditorium. Guest conductor Mr C W Sunk awarded medals for most valuable member most advanced and honorable mentions to several students. Dorothy Aurand Kenneth Hilty Joseph McGorry and others received honors as the bands showed notable improvement and a strong band program is developing.

Jefferson Memorial to be erected in honor of the Third President

The Jefferson Memorial, crafted of gold white marble, will honor Thomas Jefferson author of the Declaration of Independence and the third U S president. A site on the South bank of the Potomac is chosen to complete the city plan, with architect John Russell Pope leading the project and a $10 000 000 Mellon gift supporting the effort.
