Police Seek Flower Thieves After Local Vandalism

Police in Rittman warn residents that anyone caught damaging flowers will face fines up to 290 dollars and 30 days in jail. Chief Charles Heffelman urges calling police for sightings of flower or property damage as several daytime snippings occurred on Orchard Street. Victims include Mrs. John H. Collins and others reporting tulips, azaleas, and lilies damaged or stolen.

Willow Brook project land sale bids due Thursday

Public housing in Rittman ends Thursday as bids open for the Willow Brook site lands and the 150 by 300 foot administration building. Parcels include building lots facing streets and three vacant parcels of 1.8, 2.4, and 0.8 acres. groups of two to four lots offered. Officials ready to answer bidder questions at the clerk’s office.

Rittman Residents Urged to Request Mosquito Spraying

Rittman residents may request property mosquito spraying by visiting the city clerk’s office in City Hall or calling during the day. The service costs about 50 dollars per property and the office is closed Wednesday and Saturday.

Lawyers to Attend Ohio Bar Association 75th Anniversary

C E Rhonemus and Sherman Dalbey will leave Rittman Thursday to attend the Ohio State Bar Association annual meeting in Dayton Thursday to Saturday. The group marks its 75th anniversary and will honor all 50 year members and its one charter member. Rhonemus is president of the Wayne County Bar Association.

Rittman Consider Homecoming Plans This Thursday

Representatives of local civic and social organizations meet at Recreation Hall at 8 pm to decide whether to form a new Homecoming committee or disband the group that handled the previous celebration. Attendees from each interested organization are requested to attend.

PTA Hobby Night Show Draws Local Families

About 150 people attended the PTA Hobby Night at the Rittman Recreation building Monday evening as part of Family Night. Dinner for 110 was served before a 29 display hobby show spanning astronomy to zoology. After dinner a short meeting installed new officers: Mr and Mrs Robert Mills president. Mrs James Black, Lester Steele, and Mrs ent Barr vice presidents. secretary Mrs Ity. George Who reelected as Peletek. William Steiner corresponding secretary. Mrs Ralph Gwaltney led dining room efforts with aides Mrs Hauenstein, Mrs Williams, and Mass Robinson. Mrs Robert Davis supervised the hobby show.

Services Held for Mrs. Fanny Rohrer

Funeral services conducted at Gillman funeral home for Mrs. Fanny Geiser Rohrer 71 who died after a two month illness. Born near Sterling she lived in Rittman and vicinity most of her life moving to Wadsworth two years ago. Survived by husband Michael three daughters, Delpha Straiton Donna Keener Pauline Keener of Bradenton Fla, son Wilbur Geiser of Wadsworth, five stepdaughters and two stepsons, twenty four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Council Hears of Need Of Full Time Engineer

The Ritt man Council met in a special session to consider legislation on accepting a bid for water bonds and to discuss hiring a full time city engineer. They noted 1954 engineering costs totaling 15 364.46 and debated supervision of street water and sewage operations and the need for centralized oversight.

Lions Elect Harold Davis President

Harold Davis was named president of the Rittman Lions Club for the coming year at a regular meeting Monday evening. Kenneth Leatherman was named first vice president, Karl Gillman second, John Winkler third vice president, Wayne Ferrer fal_twister, and R. D. Snyder Lion tamer. Andy Banders and Harold Brown joined the board of directors. Austin Gift and Glen Mohler were admitted as members.

Builders Forecast at Least Sixty Homes for Rittman Year

American Legion Carnival Promises Family Fun Next Week

The Rittman American Legion sponsors a carnival on the Recreation Hall field at N Malm St from Tuesday to Saturday with an added Saturday matinee. Fallon organization of Akron, owners of the rides, served at the Homecoming Celebration in 1951 and will provide attractions for all ages, focusing on children’s rides.

County students back Crusade for Freedom with signed scrolls

Three thousand three hundred forty nine students from eleven Wayne County communities sign Freedom Scrolls in support of Radio Free Europe. Legion Auxiliary Announces Poppy Poster Prize Display

The American Legion Auxiliary of Rittman announces a poster show by local school art students to honor Poppy Day. Posters will be judged and then distributed to merchants during the week before May 27 28 to aid veterans hospitals and disabled veterans and their families.
