Lions Sell 300 Brooms in Rittman Drive Sale

The Rittman Lions Club broom sale drew 28 Lions canvassing the village to move 300 brooms. Proceeds support sight saving work. Top sellers were Don K Freed and James M Hile with 41 brooms. Runners up Karl Gillman and Harold Davis with 38.

Rittman boys boost Wayne County Soap Box Derby entries

Two more Rittman youths have joined the Wayne County Soap Box Derby, local chairman Hugh L Strickland announced. The total entrants from Rittman reach six with Jack and Tommy Stromack, twins of Mr and Mrs Mike Stromack of Medina Street, returning entrants from last year, alongside Jack Bigler Art Hall Allan Mills and Paul Erb.

Church Plans To Build New School

Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will add 345,000 to its parish school this summer to ease crowded classrooms. Architect Krause and Associates of Akron prepares plans for two classrooms two toilets a rest room and kitchen. Bids open soon with completion hoped for next fall. The addition sits north of the current building as a one-story structure. Funds include 10,000 already pledged and carnival proceeds July 23 to equip the school. A Building Committee led by George I Petit oversees the project with Dominican nuns from Akron teaching the two first and second grade classes currently holding 65 students per room.

Doylestown School Wins County Literary Contest

Doylestown High School defeated Smithville to win the Wayne county literary speech contest by a wide margin. Jim Winnermark earned first place in the short story division. St Anns Jubilee Card Party is set for Friday at Recreation Hall at 8 p m with door prizes, tables, and refreshments for attendees.

Plan for Rittman Baseball Season

Earl Dull 67 CBC Printer 45 Years Dies in Wooster

Earl C. Dull a longtime CBC printer who worked 45 years at Ohio Boxboard died suddenly Thursday at his Wooster home. Funeral services were held Saturday at McIntire Funeral Home with Rev Howard Lauby presiding. He is survived by his wife Betty Elizabeth two sons Russell and Robert a daughter Mrs Fred Curry a brother a sister four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Interment was in Wooster cemetery.

Scout Committee Seeks Leaders and Funds in Rittman

The Rittman Scout advisory group reports 32 of about 50 active local scouts cannot attend due to a lack of adult leaders. The committee plans a two fold drive to recruit volunteers and solicit cash gifts to cover an $800 annual operating budget for leadership, fees, literature, badges, supplies, and National Scouting costs.

Rittman PTA Hosts Family Night Dinner and Hobby Show

The Rittman Parent Teacher Association sponsors a family night supper and hobby show Monday May 16 at 6 pm in Recreation Hall as part of Youth Week. Volunteers plan a covered dish dinner with milk, rolls, and butter and invite families to bring displays and children. The hobby show opens at 7 30 with building access from 3 30 for displays.
