Ordinance Fixing Gas Rates for Rittman Ohio for Seven Years

Village of Rittman Ohio enacts Ordinance No 477 to fix and regulate The Ohio Fuel Gas Company charges for natural and manufactured gas. The ordinance sets tiered rates per 100 cubic feet, minimum monthly charges, and late payment penalties for a one year term, then extends at revised rates for four years and further for two more years. It repeals Ordinance No 1582 from March 12, 1941.

Poppy Program At Atlanta Honored By Legion

The American Legion chapter hosted a Poppy Program on May 14 led by Mrs Boyd Miller with entertainment arranged by Mrs Earl Frank. Refreshment committee included Mrs Ray Prosser and Mrs O C Snyder, plus several others. A Gold Star luncheon in Creston featured speakers Mrs Arthur Greene, 10th District President, and Mrs Darkzellars, department president.

Rittman Chapter Neo 529 Holds Annual Inspection

The Rittman Chapter Neo 529 Stue ht Basten Star held its annual inspection at the Masonic Temple on Thursday evening May 16 with 81 guests and 63 members present. Officers were honored with corsages, two candidates initiated, and remarks by state officers and local dignitaries. Refreshments followed as the group celebrated in a decorated dining room with performances by soloists Mollie Bell Holcomb and Helen Mougey.

First Communion for Ann Reffert Celebrated at Home

Mr and Mrs Ed Reffert hosted a Sunday dinner to honor Ann Reffert's first communion. Rittman Village approves gas ordinance repeal and delivery rules

The village council repeals Ordinance No 1582 governing The Ohio Fuel Gas Company. The measure allows gas service for domestic and commercial uses first, with other classes only after needs are met, and requires company acceptance within 30 days. Passed May 14 1945.

Mothers Club Story Hour Sponsored at Library

Mrs Herbert Willems hosted the Rittman Mothers Club gathering on May 15 with guests Mrs Herman Baehr and Mrs Vernon Steiner. The group voted to sponsor a summer library Story Hour, planned an upcoming park picnic, and heard a talk by Mrs Charles Ward on If Children are Afraid of Thunderstorms followed by a white elephant exchange. A farewell gift greeted Mrs H A Boughner who relocates to Massillon.

Otterbein Class Meets at Steiner Home

The Otterbein Class of the United Brethren Church met at the home of Mr and Mrs Russell Steiner south of Rittman. Members and guests heard M/Sgt Dale Turner speak on A Tour Through the Holy Land. Donations were raised for an elevator at Otterbein Home and cabins for the summer Bible camp. Entertainment was led by Mr and Mrs Cecil Hopton. A buffet luncheon followed for 31 members and 8 guests.

Christ Kable Dies at 77 in Milton Township

Christ Kable a longtime Milton Township resident died Friday at 730 pm at his home three miles southwest of Rittman of a heart attack. The funeral was held Tuesday at St Anne's Catholic Church with a burial at the church cemetery. Surviving are his widow Clara a daughter Mrs Whiliam Ho man and a brother Joseph of Rock Island Illinois.

Birthday Party for Mrs Thompson Honors May Celebration

The Birthday Club met on Thursday May 10 honoring Mrs Vernon Thompson with a birthday cake from her niece Mrs Delone Bowman. Vicars dies from crash injuries in Route 94 wreck

Memorial Day Observed Sunday May 27 Parade Plans Released

Memorial Day will be observed on Sunday May 27 with a parade north from Ernest at 1 pm led by the high school band. World War II veterans, discharged or on furlough, are invited to march along with Gold Star families riding in the parade and attending the cemetery service at Rittman Cemetery at 2 pm with Commander U M Wenger arranging details.

Poppy Days Set For May 25 and 26

The American Legion Auxiliary will distribute memorial poppies in Rittman on May 25 and 26 to honor fallen service members. Poppy Chairman Mrs. Boyd Miller says any donation is welcome and will aid disabled veterans and orphans. Citizens are encouraged to wear the crimson badges by May 26.

Forty Two High School Holds Commencement at Auditorium

Forty two high school will receive diplomas at 4 pm in the auditorium for Commencement exercises. Two other class members entered the armed forces during junior year and Leonard Wertz was lost at sea in naval combat.

The annual Baccalaureate service for the graduating class will be held in the high school auditorium Sunday at 7 p.m. All churches will join for the event. Rev Ord Gehman of the First Brethren church will deliver the message. Rev W Price of the United Brethren church will preside. Junior High School Commencement exercises will be held in the high school auditorium at 8 p.m. Monday with the class presenting the program.
