The Census will reveal population figures soon but Rittman is already described as over 5,000 residents. Voters approved a home rule charter last May 3 to govern as a city when the census data confirm the change, with a December 1, 1960 effective date.

School Help Gets Raise

Board of Education approves five percent pay raises for custodial secretarial and lunch room staff at its monthly meeting. Further study will review salary schedules for administrative heads. The West Hill School addition plans move ahead with architects Spahn and Barnes. Attorney Rhonemus says bond sale of 207000 should be delayed until after July 15 to avoid this year’s taxes.

Landscape Drive Turns UpSupport in Cemetery Vandalism Fight

Rittman officials report a third vandalism at the town cemeteries with $185 raised toward a landscape fund. Chief Heffelman urges stronger penalties up to $500 and six months jail for culprits. Contributions come from Garden Club Rotary Lions and local companies as the Chamber seeks 500 Amur Privet plants and a time capsule project.
