Robbery Attempt Near Home Ended by Unknown Intruder

Last Thursday evening Harry Anderson from south of town was returning from the Junior-Senior banquet when a holdup demanded he raise his hands. Believed he faced a gun, but the intruder fled. no valuables were taken. Anderson suspects amateurish behavior and may identify the assailant.

Sterling Woman Dies After Short Illness

Mrs. Lewis Jordan of Sterling died Monday afternoon at Massillon City Hospital after a two week illness. She lived on the Lance farm on the Rittman Sterling road. Aged 456 years, she is survived by husband and five children Alfred Lucile Harvey Madge and Lewis. Funeral services were held at the residence Thursday at two o'clock.

Wayne County Legion Council Meeting Held With 40 Present

Wednesday evening the Wayne County Council of The American Legion met here with about 40 legionaires present. This council consists of representatives appointed by Post Commanders of each post in the county, Vern Gebhart is County Council Commander and Chas. J. Rohrer is adjutant. This council is the point of contact between state headquarters and the organized posts.

Death of Mrs Luthér Mehle in West Salem

Mrs Luthér Mehle of Rittmann 44 West Salem died May 17 while preparing a meal. She was about 78. Survived by two sons Clyde and Fern. A niece Mrs L W Mehle and other distant relatives reside here. Funeral services Friday.

Alexander Bachman Dead Near Georgetown

Death occurred at home of Mr and Mrs Alexander Bachman near Georgetown early Monday. He was 69 years and 9 months old. Funeral services held at the house Wednesday at one then at Apostolic church south of town at two. Funeral director A L Ebert. Simon Bachman of Rittman listed in local notices.

Indictment Returned Against Martz in Auto Theft Case

After a brief grand jury session in Wayne county two true bills were returned. Walter Martz of Rittman faces charges of stealing an auto and driving without the owner's consent. The second indictment was not published as the person is not under arrest.

Apple Creek Girl Seeks Miss Wooster Title at Cedar Point

Among eleven contestants nominated to represent Wooster as Miss Wooster at Cedar Point the Apple Creek entrant Delphia Shook is named as a Miss Ohio hopeful. Miss Shook, daughter of Robson and Mrs Shook, from Apple Creek, is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs John Fille of this place.

During May 22 to 29 the Jackson Presbyterian Church marks its 100th anniversary with a homecoming for former members and events to honor the rural congregation.

Milton Twp Girls Receive 4-H Club Diplomas

Twenty one Wayne County farm youths earned Ohio State University club diplomas for completing four years of 4-H work. Among them are Bertha Lance, Marjorie, and Alfriéda Steele of Milton Township, with ages listed in the readable portion as ARASH Seed.

Senior class play and baccalaureate events announced

The senior class play The Dream That Came True will be staged in the school auditorium Friday evening with advance tickets selling well. Sunday the baccalaureate sermon will be delivered by Rev Ortt with local ministers assisting at the auditorium. May 20 is the date for commencement exercises. Rev Dr Vernon Wade Wagar of Warren will give the class address. An election for municipal offices was held by the schools but results are omitted due to space. Attorney Wayne Garver gave Boys Week talks at the high school.

Entertains for Mrs Searcy in Wadsworth move

Mrs Chas Newman hosts a bridge gathering with three tables in honor of Mrs Searcy who leaves for Wadsworth. R H Searcy departs, Mr Searcy promoted to Acme store manager. The couple is moving from Doylestown after four years, to Highland avenue in Wadsworth, friends extend best wishes.

Death Notice for Mrs. Frank Wright Near Sterling

Mrs Frank Wright died at her Sterling area home Sunday evening at eight due to Wrights disease and apoplexy. Husband died last October. Survived by sons Floyd of Sterling Ella of Wadsworth and Don of Sack son. Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday afternoon.

The American Legion Auxiliary announces its annual poppy sale on May 20 and 23 to raise funds for disabled veterans in homes and hospitals. Volunteers will produce and distribute the poppies to honor those who served.

Mr and Mrs L J Dulabahn celebrated their anniversary in Dulabahn Doylestown Wednesday. They were unable to attend a family gathering including Arthur of Oklahoma and Withem of Kansas. Proceeds from dances support new furnishings for Toreador Club relocation to Salt Street quarters. Next Wednesday headlines boosted fundraising at Branigants Hall. A Mother's Day program by Brethren was appreciated.

Sister of Mr and Mrs Secrest Dies at Wooster

Mrs. Henry Switzer, born Susie Cole, died Saturday evening in Wooster after ten days of pneumonia. She was 83, taught several terms of school, and funeral services were held Monday. Reverend Platter, commissioner from Cleveland Presbytery, attends the 189th Presbyterian General Assembly at Civic Auditorium, Hay 26 to Jans 1.
