Unsettled weather is noted for Wednesday in the western portion of the Ohio Valley and Tennessee. The forecast indicates generally fair conditions with seasonable temperatures throughout the week.
Cleveland Plain Dealer reports President Wilson plans a firm response to the Lusitania disaster and subsequent American losses. A stiff note to Germany is expected within forty eight hours as the administration weighs contingencies before making policy public.
The high school will hold commencement on Monday evening May 24 with a dramatized Hiawatha in Indian costume. Rhea Shafer is salutatorian and Daniel Wright delivers the valedictory under Miss Elizabeth Tibbit. A baccalaureate sermon by Rev. J. B Hobart is set for May 23 at the Presbyterian church.
Rittman residents recall the late fall fire at Mrs. Anna Novassel home on North State street. Her ex husband was linked to the blaze and Joe Novassel later recovered in a Pittsburg hospital. He faced arson and weapons charges, with time in jail and a penitentiary sentence. The new house near ready for plasterers with a daughter returning from Wisconsin to occupy it.
The Farmers Institute report lists regular institutes, attendance, and costs for 1913 14 and 1914 15. It shows 427 regular institutes in 1914 15 with total attendance 513 280 and state expense 18 474 29.
M. Miller of Sterling was re elected district superintendent for two years with salaries of 1700 next year and 1800 the following year. He oversees District No 1 including Milton Chippewa and Baughman townships. Milton township teachers named for the coming year include Walter Geandervin Emma Kean Glenn Geandervin Glenn King Frank Wenger Warren Bodager Lizzie Weigley Vida Amstuts.
The Wesleyan Methodist Mission will hold evangelistic services starting Saturday May 15 for ten days. Evangelist A. Y. Vestal of Senecaville Ohio will preach. Evening services begin 7 30 and Sabbath May 16 at 2 00 PM. Everyone welcome.
The Busy Bee Class met at Miss Jennie McElroy's home on Tuesday night for a class meeting. Teacher Mrs. Hickin was absent. They thanked Mrs. R. E. McElroy for lunch and enjoyed a social time. Jennie McElroy secretary. Marie Moff president. Wanda Brenneman treasurer.
A movement in the Columbus senate calls for rejecting any new bills aimed at amending the Vanderhelde flood prevention law. Senate has right to veto, supporters say senatorial courtesy has been abused in the Garver bill fight and may worsen.
A Press reporter tours the Kauffman dairy and ice cream plant in Rittman describing a modern facility with 150 gallon capacity tank, 140 degree milk heating, 30 minute hold, automated bottling, creamery equipment, and a fully sanitary operation producing milk, cream, ice cream, skim milk, sour milk, and cottage cheese under manager Ezra Kauffman. The plant emphasizes cleanliness, gas-fueled power, and a growing output of 160 to 175 gallons of milk.
Burglars entered Weiser & Son shoe store at Orrville through a transom night time. About $50 worth of high priced shoes and rubbers were taken with items left scattered and some shoes chosen to fit the thieves. Exit possibly through rear door near Pennsylvania tracks.
