Tabert Case Theme Film Shown At London May Event
A screening of a strong pro reform film about Martin Tabert to be presented by Howard A. Bile Post of The American Legion at London North Dakota May 11 and 12. The show, based on a harrowing Tabert story, features Lloyd Hughes Barbara Radford Eddie Phillips and Lydia Krott. The London Legion and Commercial Club raised funds for investigation and prosecution. Tabert, a farm youth from near London, was whipped in a Florida camp then died days later. The case led to abolition of the convict-lease system and legal changes including outlawing whipping. The program notes describe a tense but nonharassing plot with a love subplot.
