Booster Club Plans Summer Civic Event In Massillon

Booster club directors and American Legion committee met to map a summer civic program in Massillon. Carnivals and a car raffle were dropped due to difficulties. The Legion will withdraw from other events. Former booster president Herbert Craxton and Dr. H. W. Bell noted past successes and tentative plans included an ox roast pageant and band concert in early August.

Lions Club hears England talk and notes

At the Lions club meeting a wire from the Texas City Lions Club thanked the local group for a donation. Mrs. William Meyer spoke on conditions in England and impressions of America. Nomination of officers was postponed for two weeks. Ladies night is set for May 19. Charles Wald leads this month’s programs.

Proclamation Clean-Up Week in Rittman Village

The village proclaims May 12 to 17 as clean-up week and asks residents to place tin cans trash in containers near streets or alleys. Containers will be picked up west of Main Street on Monday to Wednesday and east of Main Street on Thursday to Saturday.

City to Form Softball League Seeks Community Backing

Recreation head Coach Ashton Hall announces a meeting at city hall on Tuesday May 13 at 8 15 after the May Day program to organize a city softball league. Merchants and groups have shown interest in backing teams connected to the recreation program.

Scout Skating Party Brings Rittman Troops to Wadsworth

Four Rittman Girl Scout Troops hosted a skating party at a Wadsworth rink last Wednesday. Seventy eight girls traveled with mothers and all enjoyed themselves eager for another gathering.

Birthday Cake and Aging Fire Truck Mark May Anniversary

May 6 marked twenty years of continuous service for Rittman’s old red fire truck built in 1927 by the Sea Prave Co. of Columbus. The aging vehicle shows its age with a square chassis and right hand steering, overhauled seven years ago to reduce grey hairs. A newer Community fire truck from 1941 stands beside it, with Seagrave equipment. The department has added a portable pump and a 500 watt light plant, and the Moose Lodge recently donated a respirator and a facemask unit.

May Queen Crowned As Helen Zvada Leads Program

Helen Zvada is crowned May Queen with a central throne on the football field. A 24 girl May Pole dance, elaborate costumes, and performances by band chorus and sextette will unfold. Attendant roles include Janet Bauman and Ruth Bruny. crown bearer Richard Yoho. train bearers Tommie Stro mach and Jackie Stro mach. flower girls Mary Alline Grant and Virginia Lee Trogdon. Fanfare by Gene Over with accompanists Eileen Fackler and Dorothy Adams. Directed by Miss Donna Jeanne Gault. rain date May 15. Rotary Entertainment by School Music Group

Miss Donna Jeanne Gault directed the program last week as the school music group from the Girls Sextet performed several numbers and trumpet solos by Gene Over while piano pieces were given by Robert Graber and Eileen Falkler. Miss Gault announced plans for the coming Spring Festival and Tom Young, club president, presided at the event.

Three Arts Club Plans Friday Rummage Sale

Mrs J J Williams hosted the Three Arts Club on May 15 when plans for a rummage sale were finalized for Friday May 9 at the i Store. Doors open 8 30 with a white elephant sale by Mrs Basil Hardgrove and a talk by Mrs Bill Moyer introduced by Mrs Avery Kine.

P. V. Dairy Wins Bowling Trophy In Close Race

More than 100 members attended the final banquet at Young's hotel. The Rittman Pleasant View Dairy won the league race, with a three way play off deciding the winner. Clayton Kunkler received the Rittman Press trophy as captain. high averages and scores were announced. $924 in cash prizes distributed. officers re-elected and a committee formed to contact other Rittman leagues for a bowling association.

Board of Education Advances Plans for New School

The board met with architect from Spahn and Barnes to prepare working drawings and specs within eight months. If bids for materials and construction are satisfactory, building will begin. Finance committee authorized to invest 380000 in government securities and hold rest in reserves. Superintendent Hauenstein empowered to contact the Bureau of Juvenile Research on testing sub normal children.

A daughter Cheryl Lynn was born to Mr and Mrs LaVern Dotterer at Lodi Hospital on Sunday April 27 Mrs Dotterer formerly Christine Beery. Correction A son was born to Mr and Mrs Ben Blankenship on Sunday April 27.
