The Elliott family heirs offer 150 to 200 books from the late Lee Elliott for a Rittman library. The high school would steward the collection until a public library is established, after which volumes pass to the main library.
The first through third grade production at the new high school auditorium titled The Three Bears drew a well attended Tuesday evening crowd. Minuets, fancy drills, and a humorous A Stack of Black Cats sketch brought laughs as a $3250 collection was raised with no admission charged.
Mr and Mrs L J Gigandet return from a winter in New Smyrna Florida reporting a wonderful season yet noting milder heat in their home town this week. He quips he brought a carload of Florida weather along and mentions Ohio letters reported cold weather.
Zeigler of Rittman defeats Douglas of Dalton 3 2 in a pitchers duel. Rittman benefits from two errors and singles by Kindig Kohler. Zeigler fans 13, Douglas 11. Kindig goes 2-for-3 with a walk. Kohler adds the other RBI. Next up Wayne County Tournament at Wooster. basketball champions to Smithville.
Wayne County committee selects August dates for a county picnic at the Wooster fair grounds with contests planned. Officials note the event aims to surpass prior years, despite Rittman hosting its own annual picnic.
Secretary James J. Davis aims to have boxboard manufacturers nationwide adopt eight hour shifts to end 11 and 18 hour cycles. The Ohio Boxboard Company here already uses eight hour shifts and is cited as a local leader. The effort targets continuous factories to standardize hours across the industry.
In regular session the village council approved annexation of land recently purchased by J H Fisher from J Smith. A pay ordinance passed and a water mains expansion authorized up to 60000 for extending service on the hill area where development is expected. The mayor reported 2100 collected last month.
The council remains with five members after Charles Rohrer’s seat is declared vacant. Officials say a sixth member would aid timely passage of important legislation, stressing the need for a full council to deliberate.
The Pythian Sisters district convention was held in Ashland on Friday May 3 under district deputy Mrs Cora M Cook of Orrville. Delegates numbered 127 from Mansfield Wooster Orrville Rittman Ashland Shelby Butler Bellville and Millersburg with Mrs John B Hickin as delegate. Ritualistic work was demonstrated and Rittman received praise as Ashland temple provided loyal entertainment.
Ray D Prosser of the county south of town was granted a divorce from Kathryn Prosser on Tuesday. Attorney Daniel C Funk represented Prosser before Judge Glenn of Coshocton County. The case cited gross neglect and extreme cruelty. Kathryn Mickey was restored as her maiden name after she did not contest the divorce.
Tuesday afternoon Marshall Mills picked up Edward Rocney an escapee from the state Institution for feeble minded in Columbus. While driving toward Wooster Mills spoke with Rocney then took him to Wooster where Sheriff Bucher received him. Officials said they would come to Wooster for the man.
Notice to the public states our office will be closed starting June 1, 1924, every evening at 6 o'clock except Friday and Saturday. The notice is signed by Alehouss and Wein.
Vital Statistics for April report three births in Rittman to Cherng Kerr and Luthart with daughters Nadia Margaret Arlene and Marjory Elinore. Three deaths include William Lang aged 67 Catheringe Steiner 63 and C M Bingham 86, all long-lived residents.
The thirty fourth annual convention of the Wayne County Christian Endeavor Union will be held in Rittman next year. Local churches Milton Presbyterian Unity Brethren and Brethren extended the invitation and will jointly arrange the event through U C E B groups. Roma Mougey and W B Landis were elected county union officers, and about 350 people attended the Creston convention where Dr Samuel Headland and Mr Yreot spoke.
Monday May 12 1924 National Hospital Day observes 5000 hospitals in the U S and Canada. Wadsworth Municipal Hospital holds a Baby Show from two to four in the afternoon inviting babies born there since opening. Public invited to visit. Rittman expects several Woodsworth births to be represented.
Wayne Co champion Rittman High School basketball players received white sweaters with a cardinal emblem and arm stripes. Alumni Association funded the gifts and coach praised fan loyalty. A silver cup signed by local businessmen honors squad, coach, manager, and staff, enriching the school trophy case.
Mrs Jule Steiner hosted eight children on Ohlo Ave in Tenor for John Steiner’s fourth birthday. The youngsters played games and enjoyed a happy afternoon filled with gifts and well wishers as they departed. Mantor John received many little gifts and the guests extended birthday wishes.
James Randolf of near Croston and Samuel Holderbaum of Rittman were fined 2600 and costs by Squire Botus for driving while intoxicated. Deputy Sheriff Manson arrested them on the Sterling Jackson road. They arranged to pay fines and were released.
Mrs Ida M Yoder of this place sues Charles F Yoder for divorce and equitable relief saying he left home May 25 1923 and never returned. They married Oct 8 1914 in Rittman have no children and she had a prior marriage. He is filing for divorce from Luella Keating alleging extreme cruelty and states they wed Oct 6 1923 in St Clairsville Ohio. Luella left home Dec 26 1923 and has not returned. they have no children. Both couples reside in Rittman and St Clairsville respectively.
Mrs. Lucinda Parks wife of George Parks and mother of Guy Parks both of whom are employed at the Ohio Salt Company died Monday morning at the real doncea in Sterling Burial was made in New London Ohio A. L. Obert was in charge. CRAVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CLASS REPRESENTED BY DR H R ALEXANDER
W. M. Henderson, formerly assistant county superintendent of schools, elected to fill the unexpired term of the late G. A. Baumgardner. The term ends August 1, after which a new superintendent will take over. The period brings teacher hiring and exams, commencements, and related duties.
Rittman youths Wel don Hardgrove and Albert Jones arrived Tuesday evening about 8:30 after a winter in Florida. They had left Rittman last fall returning home in seven and a half days.
