Superintendent Baumgardner Dies In Creston Train Collision

G U Baumgardner of Wooster died after his Ford coupe collided with an eastbound freight engine at Creston while en route to Berea. He served as County Superintendent of Schools and was a longtime church member at Wooster First Presbyterian. Interment was in Medina. Scholarships and tributes followed at the church service.

American Legion Auxiliary Open House Encourages New Members

The Auxiliary of the American Legion held an April 22 open house with about twenty former members present and ten eligible members invited. Eight signed up to become active. business lengthy. time used to make and hang window draperies for the Legion room. Refreshments served by four Auxiliary members. Next meeting is May 6.

Car Stolen and Recovered in Ohio Boxboard District

Roy Jones’s Ford roadster was stolen from the Ohio Boxboard grounds while he worked. A renter at Jones’s home vanished after his bill of sale and car key went missing. Ford dealer R W Fredrick sent car data to registrars and police. a telegram later said the car was found and Marshal Mills went to Mansfield with the owner. No details on thief’s capture were given.

Dramatic Stars Lead in Down East Folks at Local High

A selected cast from local high school students will perform the play Down East Folks by Harold McGraw at the new high school auditorium Monday and Tuesday May 12-13 under Mrs Jack Champions direction. The cast includes Joan Taney Cantey Clarence Justin Chick Shook Celina Holm Nelson Sheeta and others. The production blends Howells Maupassant and Rinehart elements to create a memorable stage piece. Mrs. Mary Stanley Elliott of La Ville Ohio died April 24 1924 at her niece’s home in Troy New York after years of church and civic service. Funeral services were held at the Seville Presbyterian Church with interment in Seville Cemetery.

Death of David C. Amstutz Founder of Old Peoples Home

David C. Amstutz died April 28 from injuries after a fall on the sidewalk weeks earlier. He founded the Old Peoples Home built about 25 years ago and burned eight years ago. He was 22 years, 3 months, and 24 days old. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Crown Hill church.

Family Friends Visit Mrs Defoe During Illness

Last Sunday Mr and Mrs D R Niles Mr and Mrs C C Gregg and families motored to Magnolia to call on Mrs Defoe who is seriously ill. Dunning De Boe and family were summoned to his parents home for his mother's illness cared for by Mattie Goodwin. Friends in Rittman hope for her rapid restoration to health.

Prominent Rittman Resident A C Niehter Dies After Illness

A C Niehter, long known in Rittman and Canal Fulton communities, died after months of declining health following a stroke. He leaves a wife, seven brothers, one sister, and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Catholic church in Canal Fulton by Father Culmot, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Rh. W. 8 defeats Doylestown 6 to 3 in a close game. Capt Harter and the Red and White stopped Doylestown after a strong start by Doylestown in the fifth inning. Pitcher Broadbeck held the visitors to four hits while Dannemiller pitched well for Doylestown. Dalton will travel to Rittman Friday for another game. a good contest is expected.

The Businéas Men's Assn. will hold the second Community Sale on Tuesday May 13 with incentives for patrons. An auction sale on the same date will invite merchants to show offerings. Rittman High Opens Baseball Season With 22 1 Victory

Rittman High School opened the baseball season by defeating Smithville on the local field last Friday. Zolgier impressed with eight strikeouts two hits and a triple a double and a single. Brodpeck subbed for Alegier in the fifth and pitched well with six strikeouts. Smithville totaled 17 hits off Webner Hanna while Rittman’s fielders allowed six. Mohler caught his first game for R H 8 and contributed a triple off Webner.
