Tittman Bond Drive Falls Short of Quota

Wednesday night reports show only 16000 in Victory bond sales with a 57560 target by Saturday. The slump is blamed on reduced factory hours at Rittman plants and lack of organized district canvassing. farmers' responses also lag, making a favorable outcome unlikely.

George Raff Home From War Returns to Rittman

George Raff of the 132nd Infantry arrived Friday at Camp Sheeman and went home to his mother Mrs Jacob Illonma in Rittman. He served in Italy with active duty and returned without a scratch. He sports a tan from Italian suns and brings home a gas mask and battlefield souvenirs.

Commencement and School Events At Rittman High

May events include the senior class play The Dust of the Earth in the high school auditorium on May 9 and a May 11 baccalaureate by Rev D A Heron. Eighth grade commencement is May 13, with senior class graduation May 14.

Easton area farmer Wilson of Chippewa township sues Bound C railroad for 1200 dollars. He alleges a high embankment blocks drainage on his 146 acre farm, costing seed, labor and crops. He seeks damages and an order to alter conditions to prevent future losses.

Playground movement seeks funds for child play equipment in Rittman

The community delays funding for playground equipment pending the Victory loan campaign. Backers hope to raise money from subscriptions at an upcoming Parent Teachers meeting while proposing possible use of about 1700 dollars from the war chest for the project.

Patrick McGushin Dead at Wadsworth Home

Patrick McGushin longtime Sterling resident and former B & O railroad section foreman died of heart trouble at his Wadsworth home. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Wadsworth and burial took place in Woodlawn cemetery. He is survived by his wife, a son John of Sterling, and a daughter Belle. He lost a leg in an accident years ago and had lived in Wadsworth since.

Farm Loan Man to Visit Wooster for Farmer Loans

Donald R. Acklin of Perrysville Ohio announces he will meet farmers at the American House in Wooster on Friday afternoon May 9 and Saturday morning May 10 to accept applications for Federal Farm Loan Act loans from The Virginian Joint Stock Land Bank. The act funds long term loans repaid in semi annual installments and operates through multiple loan banks nationwide. Farmers unable to attend may write for more information.

Village council adopts bonds to fund Salt street paving

At the regular council session an ordinance authorized issuing 32000 in street assessment bonds to cover abutting property costs for Salt street paving from Main to Wright. Bonds dated July 1 bear 6 percent interest with payments due through 1929. Cash or 10 annual installments options with interest apply. Total project cost estimated at 36000 with prior 5000 bonds issued.

Burial for Israel Spade Scheduled Next Tuesday

The body of Israel Spade will be moved from the vault at Orrville to the Old Settlers' Cemetery near Swaggler school house for burial at 2 30 pm on Tuesday. He died months ago at Marshallville but was not buried then due to weather.

Clean Up Week Proclamation Issued by Mayor

Mayor Shackelford designates May 12 as Clean up week instructing property owners and tenants to remove rubbish from lots streets and alleys and to clean outside closets. Noncompliance should be reported to the mayor or health officer for enforcement actions.

Milton Commencement Honors Eighth Grade at Sterling

The Milton township Eighth grade commencement was held Saturday night at Sterling. Rev. R. B. Wengert of Orrville delivered the address. Graduates include Mildred Johnson Ora Miller Opal Kabel Edna Smith Ida Petit Carrie Blough Mary Hartzler Ernest Dodager and Vida Gaat Paan.
