Citizens Meeting Planned for Tree Planting at Recreational Area
A public meeting called by the Recreation Commission will discuss the master plan for the new Recreational Area and a tree planting program. It will be held Wednesday May 10 at 7 30 pm in City Hall with Mayor Bud Hoover announcing and groups like Garden Club and Chamber of Commerce urged to send representatives. The panel also reviewed the master plan by landscape architect C W Burritt of the National Recreation Association, deferring action until community input is gathered. Flickinger Wins Wayne County Primary by Narrow Margin
John B. Flickinger won the sole Wayne County primary contest by 126 votes over Ralph M. Matthey for county commissioner. In Milton Township Flickinger led 92 to 81 as the Democratic central committee race produced 9 for Emil Firis and 5 for Walter Keating. Republican Herald W. Miller led 19 to 4 for Herbert Burg.

Deer Struck by Day Suffered Broken Legs in Route 94 Crash
A deer struck near Rittman on Route 94 South suffered broken hind legs and died after being moved to a ditch. Driver Gaborsky Jr reported seeing the animal collapse. Wayne County Game Warden took charge the next morning. The deer was found carrying a fawn when killed.

Raise Teacher Pay At Board Meeting
Local teachers received a pay raise at the regular Board of Education meeting at the High School. Increases ranged from 50 to 200 dollars depending on training. starting salary rose from 2150 to 2200. masters minimum from 2250 to 2350. maximums for ten and four years of training up to 2975 and 3175 with masters at 3275. The board may start a driver’s course with a small lab fee, and a one month after school reading program will run with shared costs by board and parents. They extended a contract for Mrs Faye Holvey to teach second grade and discussed summer projects including painting sash, caulking, heating parts, painting, and roof repairs at both buildings.

Early Morning Fire Destroys Civitan Club Building
