Census claims 3400 living in Rittman

Melvin Douglas a census supervisor announced a preliminary count for Rittman near 3400 residents. The mayor cited a 1940 city directory listing 3715 residents and protests in 1930 when counts lagged. Only two families reported Census omissions.

Time for Repairs In Cleanup Week

Cleanup Week begins Monday May 15 in Rittman after a weather delay. The Chamber of Commerce purchased farms to circulate to all school pupils to aid cleanup. Parents will check off completed jobs and return forms to schools listing home repair tasks to be done.

Sterling Young Men Plan New TV Radio Repair Shop

Irwin and Harold Klotzle of Sterling will open a television and radio repair business at 263 S. Main St next to Mogler Electric Service. Both formed in the area with Harold having worked at Siegel Television in Toledo and Irwin building testing equipment.

Shoe Contest Winners Named at Rittman Store

Ruth Smith of 52 Sterling and Simon Bachman of Sterling village were the winners in the Rittman Department Store shoe contest announced by Homer Moore this week. Each winner will receive a free pair of shoes of their choice from the store.

Protest Over Low Rittman Census Count In 1940s

Mayor Bud Hoover and Chamber of Commerce president C E Rhonemus protested the Census Bureau count of 3400 for Rittman noting 10 years earlier the town had 2770 residents. They cited new housing at Brookfield and Willow Brook housing developments with 400 residents and 80 to 100 new homes in two years adding about 300 people.

Mrs Pittinger to speak at Rittman High PT A meeting

Mrs Carl Pittinger of Wooster will speak at a Rittman High School meeting for parents and teachers. The event on Monday May 15 plans by laws and officer elections and a nominating committee will present candidates. More than 40 parents attended an April 24 organizing meeting with Mrs Paul Bracht as chair.

Power Failure in Rittman Linked to Jumper Break

Residents learned last Friday the outage was caused by a jumper connector breaking. Heat from the short circuit welded it shut, briefly restoring power before it failed again.

May Day Program Set for Monday at Rittman High

Rittman High School hosts its annual May Day program Monday at 7 00 PM on the football field directed by Mrs June Hottenstein If rain occurs the show moves to Tuesday at the same time Glee club and Junior and Senior sextets perform a magic show tumbling acts by Marshall Con rover John Haley Bill Hardgrove a Bill and Dorothy Bowen soft shoe dance and the school band provides music If both nights rain the event moves indoors to the school.

Parking Problems Dropped by Council After Petition Read

Rittman council members at a regular meeting dropped parking restrictions after reading a petition signed by nearly every square merchant. They said future actions would require fully signed petitions. The group discussed an amusement tax repeal request from the Diana Amusement Company and ongoing street work on West Sunset Dr with bids, costs, and installment concerns debated.

Allison Promoted Corrugated Sales Manager at Ohio Box

S F Allison is named Corrugated Sales Manager for the Rittman Sales of The Ohio Boxboard Company, succeeding Marc Shafer who resigned May 1. Allison has spent six years with The Ohio Boxboard Company and the last three as Assistant Sales Manager of Corrugated Sales.
