Rittman American Legion post hosted Harry Heffelman of Kansas City Missouri as honored guest at a Tuesday supper meeting with twenty six attendees. Out of town guests Blaine Murray Otis Ragsdale and Frank Boyder attended as the legion began action to obtain a supplemental charter for the corporation.

A massive solar disturbance created sun spots and charged particles that disrupted telegraph, telephone, cable, and short wave radio worldwide from 10:30 am to 4 pm Easter Sunday. Local calls stayed mostly, but long distance lines failed. the Aurora Borealis lit the sky as a dramatic capper.
J O U A M Speakers Set for April 6 at Rittman City Hall
Miss Mollie Roberta Cook, an alumna of the Junior Order United American Mechanics home at Tiffin Ohio, will speak Saturday night April 6 at Rittman City Hall at p.m. RS Cox will deliver “America for Americans.” The J O U A M is described as the oldest order in America and invites all residents to attend.

Poultry Day at Wooster Set for June 14 1940
The twenty fourth annual Ohio Poultry Day will be at the Experiment Station in Wooster on Friday June 14 1940. The event, sponsored by the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station and Ohio State University, draws thousands of poultrymen and families from Ohio and nearby states. New experiments on chicken and turkey tests will be shared, with additional results available to visitors. A nationally known poultry authority will speak, with more attractions to be announced.

Jacob Rutledge Rites Conducted Wednesday
Funeral services for Jacob Rutledge 81 were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the A. L. Ebert Funeral Home by Rev. Q J McGee. Burial followed at Wadsworth. He had lived with his daughter Mrs William Rike for two years and earlier worked at the Ohio Injector Co. Survivors include Mrs Rike and two sons Earl Detroit and Leonard Wadsworth.

WPA Builds Seventeen Miles Of Roads In Wayne County
WPA workers completed about 17 miles of rural roads in Wayne County over four and a half years. The effort improved farm-to-market routes aiding transport, medical access, and school attendance. Five bridges were improved or built, approximately 75 culverts rebuilt, and 700 traffic signs erected.
