Rittman hosts its Friendly Town week from June 26 to July 5 inviting inner city children to stay with rural host families. The program expands cross community friendships, medical clinics, and volunteer coordination across Ohio and nearby states. Deadline for host applications is around May 1.

Fire destroys home of William Santrock on Guilford Road
A fire at the south Guilford Road residence of William Santrock gutted the downstairs and damaged the living room with smoke upstairs. An overheated or faulty oil stove in an entrance near the kitchen is blamed. A puppy died from smoke. The family, renting from Bodager Agency, seeks furniture and clothing donations for two boys, ages 4 and 8 months, at 336-2923.

Boys Club Holds Banquet
The Rittman Boys Club hosts its first annual banquet on Saturday March 27 at 5 30 p m in the First Church of God social hall. Mayor Ashton Hall will speak. Rev Wade Jakeway will MC and perform a chalk drawing. Mrs William Dever will sing with a tea fellow Akron duo providing music. Proceeds fund a Washington DC trip and other projects. club membership has grown from eight to 42 and will move to the Junior Achievement Building on State Street.

Four Year Program To Hit Every Street
City plans a four year program to install five foot sidewalks four inches thick with six inch driveway sections. First year 1971 work covers nine new sidewalks and nine repairs on existing paths, with intersecting streets paved in different years. The plan aims to avoid corner lot hardship and ensure every street gains sidewalk coverage by project end.

Lucy Campbell 66 Dies in Rittman Home
Lucy Campbell 66 of 50 Salt St died Friday morning after a four month illness. Born Oct 21 1904 in Barberton to George and Mary Perdue Rudd she lived in Rittman most of her life. She worked at Jamie Mills Bakery and served as secretary treasurer of First Church of Christ and North American Benefit Association. Husband Ralph died in March 1970. Survived by daughter Linda Adams of Doylestown sister Ruth Rudd and two grandchildren. Services at Gillman Funeral Home with Pastor Bull Wisdom. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.

Rittman will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 10 at 1 pm in First Street Park. Two age groups 1 6 and 7 12 will hunt on separate pavillion sides with twenty prizes in each group. Event co sponsored by the Rittman Volunteer Fire Department women's auxiliary and Moose Lodge 960.

Arnold a Kent State graduate and former VP at Distribution Sciences and Controller at The Ohio Injector, resides in Rittman with four children.
