Fire levy divide in Rittman council debate over one mill tax

Rittman residents face a May ballot fire protection levy for Milton Township equipment. Solicitor Rhonemus says exemption is not possible though study continues. Trustees want $45,000 over two years while council worries taxpayers would pay most of the levy.

Mrs H S Squibbs showed pictures and spoke of a Hawaii and Mexico trip at the Rit man Garden Club covered dish supper held March 16. The meeting at Kenneth Osbor ne home discussed delays on the dump project due to bad weather and planned the April 20 gathering at Mrs F E Gilberts home with Mrs F Foerstner assisting.

Minstrel Show Review Praises Local Cast and Direction

Rittman High School staged a Minstrel Show admired by Editor James Witzberger for its homespun humor and strong chorus. He notes improvements over last year, compliments producer Sue Maple and director Ada Davis, and suggests pacing changes and more local skits for future performances.

Helen Heinz Named Queen Candidate for Area Student Council

Helen Heinz, popular senior from Rittman, selected by students to represent their school at the April 9 dance. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Heinz of 125 South Main Street, she serves as business manager of the yearbook and has been a varsity cheerleader.

Red Cross Bloodmobile Collects 141 Pints in Rittman Drive

The Red Cross Bloodmobile in Rittman collected 141 pints after 195 pledged donors, 148 appeared, and seven were rejected. The drive, led by Mrs. Ray Varisco, involved American Legion Auxiliary and numerous volunteers with donors from Rittman Sterling Doylestown and Seville among participants.

Rittman to get new post office says regional official

Public relations officer Harry Cochran of the Cincinnati district says Rittman is in line for a new post office. The city has pressed for years as the council and chamber back a building and land was bought near West Ohio Avenue but development stalled. The project has gained support from Senators Lausche and Young and Congressman Bow as land may be leased while awaiting federal disposition.

Miss Covenia Thompson Nominated For Miss Tan And Cardinal

Miss Covenia Thompson of 67 North State Street has been chosen by Pi Kappa Phi as a candidate for Miss Tan and Cardinal at Otterbein College. Williams Elected Chamber Prexy

Kindsey Williams has been elected president of the Rittman Chamber of Commerce. Co publisher of the Rittman Press Williams was chosen by the Chamber Board of Directors. J C Kandil was elected treasurer and retiring president William Davis was elected vice president. James Frye, Robert Semler, Dale Rohrer, J C, and other board members Fretwell, Harold Brown and A J Grant were named. Harold Davis is secretary.

Mrs. Rittman Seeks Mrs America Title in 1960 Contest

Rittman area homemakers have a week to enter the $50,000 Mrs America contest open to married women over 21. Local sponsor Ohio Fuel Gas Co sets a March 31 deadline with entry blanks at 8 North Main Street. The winner advances through regional contests to national finals in Fort Lauderdale Florida with prizes including a $30,000 Huber home and a two week Florida family vacation.
