Waxwings Strip School Bushes In North Street School District

Children in Mrs Mollie Holcomb s third grade class at North Street School watched a flock of cedar waxwings strip red berries from schoolyard shrubs. The birds, migrating in flocks, have distinctive crests and yellow-toned flanks. Julie Rosenberg identified the species from a bird book. The waxwings roamed in search of fruit and berry treats before moving on.

Bank to Close After President Krabill's Death

Rittman Savings Bank will close at noon Friday and reopen Saturday due to the death of President Ralph J. Krabill. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Milton Presbyterian Church.

Local Sewing Contest Attracts Over 250

Two hundred and fifty women and girls attended the Vogue Sewing Contest at West Hill School. Fifteen high school girls from Doylestown Smithville and Rittman modeled gowns. Adults from local clubs competed for first prize. Winners will visit Mt Vernon Tuesday as guests of the Sorosis Club at a meeting of the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Suit Filed Against Mary Petit Estate

The estate of Mary W. Petit of Doylestown is sued for 27500 by two bicyclists struck by the car. Donald Ady of Navarre seeks 3500 for bruises and Edna Ady of Canton seeks 25000 for injuries to her son Frederick, a bicycle passenger with serious head brain leg and ankle injuries. The suits name Cletus A Petit as administrator of the Mary Petit estate.

Rittman Board Plans Lay Committee on School Needs

The Rittman Board of Education set a special meeting to form a Lay Committee to study school district needs including education, facilities, personnel and finances. Four meetings are planned in two months with numerous named residents and officials listed to participate. The board also approved a teacher pay hike and related salary schedule changes for experienced staff.

Kindergarten Registration Meeting Next Thursday

A kindergarten registration meeting for children entering school next year will be held March 29 at 1 pm in the high school auditorium. Cancer Drive Captains Named for 1962 Campaign Start

Building Code Is Discussed In Wooster Court Hearing

New Radar Unit May Be Purchased In Rittman

Drivers in Rittman face warnings as police test a compact radar device for cigarette lighter use. City Manager Charles Mann says a $900 unit is easier to operate, needs one man, and takes five minutes to set up versus the old gear requiring three or four men and over half an hour. The unit works day or night and would be used extensively if bought.
